In this context, all bodies are dead.

The Billboard story is the more informative one.

They somehow spent millions in legal costs on a simple case and decided to settle it for millions more. The following issue is the same one that came up in the 9/11 insurance cases.

After 9/11 lawsuits had to decide whether it counted as one terrorist attack or two, because that affected the amount of insurance coverage.

In this case the insurance company says it has to pay the per-incident policy limit, because there was just one dead guy and they did a bunch of stuff related to that. The company says each thing they did wrong is a separate incident: they filmed a dead body, broadcast a dead body, said "dead body", called the dead guy names, talked to the funeral home director, etc.

Unless you have some sort of standing arising from your relationship to the deceased, most likely not. Sorry.

In a more normal world, there would be lawsuits for why MTV doesn't even show anything remotely related to music anymore

After the mid 1990s? I tuned in for the very brief Beavis and Butthead revival. Until they realized there were no videos left to rip on and someone must have had a problem with them making fun of Mtv shows in general. Now I don't even know if I get Mtv. I imagine I do.

We've all had the same thought when Survivor characters battle for a reward or Road Rulers skydive over the Grand Canyon: they won't show it if someone dies.

Someone should tell ol' Phil that you can't skydive over the Grand Farking Canyon.

The body was later identified with the name MTV Music.

And yet, Mtv shows how vile it is by demanding that it's their INSURANCE company pays up instead of Mtv itself.

Soulless, dead-inside muther farkers are running Mtv.

Seriously? Fark right off.

...the episode took T.I. to a funeral home where the body of a young man was shown on TV, and the family of that young man decided to sue...

Oh, OK. It's not an "I'm offended" lawsuit by some random asshole. Carry on, then.

...The total sum paid will be in the millions

OK, fark right off again.

Most people on MTV are already dead....if not physically, then mentally.

The family paid for cremation so why is he in a casket?

Stupid people have multi-thousand-dollar caskets burned a few hours after displaying them. Or at least think they do.

What's the f*cking point of paying for insurance if you're going to pony up every time something like this happens?  You want to express impotent rage, point that flaccid thing at the insurance company.

No. The point is that they seem to want to make it the insurance company's fault that Mtv is run by a bunch of talentless sociopaths who should have known better. And they're just trying to blame a third party for their stonewalling on paying up. Mtv should just cut the check from their own treasury and THEN hassle with the insurance company on reimbursement. Not fark around with a grieving family with this stonewalling BS.
