This is why I hang out on Fark:  Something like that needs social media to propagate, and Fark is anti-social media.

"One in five subjects okayed the fictional farcer's initial friend request, thus falling victim to the first stage of the attack," Vishwanath says.

This is stupid, right there. Don't friend people you don't actually know!

This.  They can stare at my profile all day long, won't get them a damn thing.

The second best decision I ever made was to completely ignore online social media.  Nothing but trouble.

But I won't feel loved unless I have over 2000 friends.

They might be facing  yousubby, but some of us don't accept random people on facebook.

Shouldn't TFA identify UB as the University of Buffalo?

Author sounds like the kind of idiot who 'friends' people he doesn't know.

Hell, I don't even friend all the people I do know.

My wife has been getting this lately, which is largely unimportant because she hides her personal info well enough.  I've never gotten it though - and even if I did they'd get nothing from me either other than my friends list, and i don't friend anyone I don't research first.

I was going to make a joke about Hell Online - The Anti-Social Network http://u4uoz3aphqbdc754.onion/members

But then I noticed they've shut down. It's hard to keep things running on the derpwebs. Everything is either run as a hobby or a drug market and then FBI is always after you.

I use Fark to seem 15% funnier to my friends and aquaintances as you kings of the internet weave some mighty fine comedy gold at times.

The problem I face is that my hobbies introduce me to people rather quickly -- I'll get FB friend requests from people who like my work.

I have to look at their profile to see if they at least have a history that "makes sense".  Were they at a show I went to?  Friended.  Do they just seem to have random dudes as friends?  Nope -- that's a "OMG WANNA SEE MY TITS GO TO MY WEBSITE I PROMISE ITS FREE" fake profile.
