I believe they are now called Cavs fans.

I gotta hand it to LeBron he hired a better PR agent this time around.

2014-07-30 12:25:05 PM
They should have done it. LeBron could then put an ad in the Miami Herald that said "You're Welcome - LeBron"

Not only could it be reversed, that is the truth. Heat fan should be thanking LBJ for the two titles they never would have won without him.

We have.  But the Heat also provided him with the tools to win those two titles, something the Cavs couldn't have and still won't be able to.

people slam Cleveland fans for the jersey burnings, but its forgotten that thousands of jerseys were collected and going to be shipped to Miami homeless shelters, but the Miami mayor put the kibosh on it.

Yes, it was a back-handed compliment, same as this newspaper cover, but it was a clever way to dispose of the jerseys without burning.

You mean, when LeBron, Bosh, and Wade colluded to take less money in order to play together?

The Heat "provided" the tools by default. That could have been any of about 30 teams, it just happens that Miami had decent nightlife.

That's some revisionist history if I've ever heard it.

The mayor of Miami doesn't have the authority to stop a group in Ohio from mailing shirts to homeless shelters. It's not as if the only two options were to ship jerseys to the mayor of Miami to be given to shelters as a publicity stunt or to burn them.

Sure, every team has Pat Riley running things.  To think LeBron could've won 2 titles in 4 years (including 4 straight Conference titles) with just about any other team is silly.

And everyone is writing off the Heat, which is hilarious.  If Bosh returns to Toronto form (which I suspect he will), they'll be frontrunners for a 5th straight Eastern Conference title.

Someone has to be the tallest midget. The Heat would be lucky to make the playoffs in the West.

Bosh is an egomaniac and soft.

He is not a team leader and the notion that Miami can be top 5 in the conference as constructed is laughable at best.

Enjoy him.

Unless Shabazz greatly exceeds expectations, there is no sane person who thinks the Heat are frontrunners in the East.

I'd add the Warriors as well if either Bogut or Ezeli is healthy.  Livingston is a really good pick up for a team that really needed some consistency out of the bench.

From your link - "The mayor was opposed to the idea". He didn't stop the shipment. He didn't tell the shelters don't do it. In fact, his offices official statement to the press was " "We don't care," Pat Santangelo said. "We've got bigger fish to fry." Oh, the homeless people and the Cleveland donators are being oppressed!

Here's another farking option: Keep the shirt. A lot of fans keep wearing a players jersey long after the athlete went somewhere else. Stop being a little biatch about a worker going to a place he wants to work.

Here's another free one: Stop being an attention whore, and drop off the jersey at your local Salvation Army or Goodwill. Don't try to start a movement by shipping the shirts in bulk after alerting the press. If you think there's more of a need in Miami than Cleveland, maybe you better take a second look at the economies of both.

As for bronzing them and putting them on the mantle, I don't know where you pulled that from or what angle you're shooting for. I'm not a fan of Cleveland, Miami, or LeBron (although I like watching his highlights that don't include flopping).

/Bulls fan

Pat Riley is the most overrated exec in basketball. He "convinced" three guys who wanted to play together to play together, and used a strategy of hoping injured and/or old vets would find new life to fill out the team.

Hell the first title team wasn't built for sustainability either, and look at what did with the pick he got after tanking. Michael Beasley.

After all, that's what you build a team for, winning the conference.

True, but, part of that as well is that you have more "titles" teams can crow about and sell that merchandise on.   I mean, realistically, it would make more sense for the NFL to have 2 8-team divisions in each conference, so that you don't have small 4-team divisions where a crappy team can win a crappy division and earn a playoff birth.   But, then you are cutting in half how many teams can print up "Division champ" shirts every year.

First, do you really think Bosh will return to Toronto form?  He's not at the age where he gets better with each passing year.  Even if he did, Toronto wasn't a front-runner without him and, unless Wade gets healthier, that team is not that much better than what he had in Toronto.  They're not going to contend for the east.

Bosh has played his best when he's required to be "the man".  I don't think he has ever really felt comfortable on the floor down here yet.  He is older, true, but the experience he's gained will show.

And hey, he's got no choice.  He has to step up.

T.rex: people slam Cleveland fans for the jersey burnings,

Not necessarily; I think jersey burnings in general is stupid, but that's not indigenous to Cleveland. What made a lot of us facepalm in Cleveland's general direction was the DURATION of the general anger, as well Gilbert's stupid f*cking letter.

In fact, to be honest with you, if Dan Gilbert wasn't such a dork, I probably wouldn't have uttered anything cynical or untowardly towards Cleveland during that time. But the words of a angsty 13 year old girl disguised as an NBA owner sort of poisoned the well, there.

Must not have offered the PD enough cash to run it.  That rag of a paper is the local Cleveland edition of TMZ.  Their editor recently wrote an article saying they aren't interested in facts before putting out a story.  If it changes, then they'll make an update.  So they just publish rumors and if it's wrong they just retract it and say oops.

He's more experienced than he was in Toronto, but that doesn't make him better. He had to be "the man" in Toronto too, and they never contended.  The only way this works is if that experience not only makes up for being several years older but is enough to make him good enough to carry a team farther than what he did in Toronto.  They won't win the East.

I caught a few minutes of his show this afternoon, he's laughing his ass off about this "controversy". He says they had absolutely nothing to do with anyone trying to buy an ad in Cleveland, that if anyone actually did try this then they used his name without his permission.

Silly question: Why do the rings for the Heat's 2nd and 3rd championships have one & two trophies, respectively?  Does 2006 not count because it was Shaq and not LBJ?
