You get what you pay for, and no one pays for good journalists anymore.

Once-functioning?  I thought journalists were always "functioning alcoholics"

Functioning alcoholics cost more.

Is it worse or just easier to call journalists out on their shiat now?

Nor, it seems, did they pay for the photos they took from the soldier's facebook account

They should be hearing the distant hoots and yawps of a vicious pack of Facebook and estate lawyers soon.

Ironic that the website demands that I make a decision about downloading their iPad app before reading TFA

Our apologies to Guy Boyland's family for the wrong photo on this morning's lead story.

"Would you like to download thejournal.ie's free iPad app?"

"Would you like to go fark yourself with the wire brush that lady from the other thread ate by accident?"

My god, it will be a perfect storm of douches: lawyers, Facebook, and hacks. Who ever wins, we lose

No, the editor-in-chief published a statement accepting full responsibility for the mistake and said the Boylands had been "remarkably forgiving" about the paper putting the wrong picture in the story about their son.

Fark him.  Ryan Dunn was a drunken idiot who killed himself.

Boyland "honored" him on his facebook page.

The world is better off without them both.

Although you kind of have to admit it's just the kind of prank Jackass would probably have done themselves.

Yes, now they're just "alcoholics."

Say what you will about the "alcoholic" reporters of yesteryear...they clearly had a better understanding of what was going on than "todays" journalists.....which probably explains the alcoholism.

Functional alcoholic is a kind of functional.

Preventing this sort of thing was once the function of a now-vanished species known as 'editors'. Now, even my beloved Wall Street Journal exhibits the signs of decay, with spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors showing up on a regular basis.

We have journalists today? Only, I can't name any. At least, not in the US. Hell, my local station's lead story was over people trash talking conservatives in emails.
