Was at the game last night. Incredible game, and they way they announced it in the stadium as "Breaking News" was Kuo saying it in Korean then Translated by Puig in Spanish which was then translated by Turner in English.  Was kind of amusing.

Guess you had to be there.

I honestly thought he died a few years ago.
The guy turned 50 nine days after I was born.

I wonder which bat boy will run out to pick up the beach ball that blows onto the field!?

There is some value and grace in retirement. We don't need him keeling over during a game

At this point he'll probably keel over if he stops

Fun fact:

Connie Mack's last day as a manager was Vin Scully's first as an announcer.

Combining those two careers, you can span back to 1886.

He's just doing this out of respect for Derek Jeter.  After all, we can only have one season long wank-fest per season.

Seriously.  Besides, it is the only way he can see the games anymore since he doesn't have Time Warner Cable.

Not with The Dodgers though.

Never been one to "grow-up" listening to a radio announcer for any sport, so I can't understand the love this guy gets.

I'm not demonishing it, just never understood it.

I guess the closest I've gotten is one of the most hated local voices for sports, Jack Edwards.

The more sports get nationalized, it is hard to find a local voice that is distinguishable. The only national broadcast voice I like is Emrick, and he's held down by Eddie.

I have never heard a bad Vin Scully broadcast. He was the best 40 years ago; 20 years ago; and he's the best now. I hate the Dodgers, but I could never hate Vin Scully. He never wasted my time.

Not really. Whether there's a national broadcast or not, every team in about every sport has its own local crew doing the game on television and/or radio. You should hear some clips from college football game radio broadcasts -- they've got homers who go completely nuts. The highlights of those guys, at least, are a lot of fun, though some of them may get tedious over the course of an entire season.

As far as Vin Scully goes, he's more than earned my respect over the years. I didn't like him for a long time until I eventually figured out it was on account of Joe Garagiola, who he was teamed with for national broadcasts on NBC years ago. The two of them would egg each other on into constant over-the-top nostalgic reminiscing. I was much happier when I got the game with their #2 team of Kubek and Costas.  Once I was exposed to him later on without Joe, Scully sounded much better to me.

I think another reason for me to appreciate Scully is that I was stuck listening to Milo Hamilton doing Astros games for so many years.

Today is the day that I realized my dad is retiring this year at age 65...and Vin Scully was announcing Dodgers games before HE was born. Holy sh*t.

To be honest, I'd love Don Orscillo to replace Joe Buck on Fox.  I'd rather listen to the NESN-cast of Sox/Yanks than YES.

I'd be okay with Gilbert Gottfried replacing Joe Buck on Fox. His pretentiousness makes Bob Costas look humble by comparison.
