That's free advice.

That whiney beotch did more harm to his reputation by following through with this suite than a throw away sentence lost in the middle of the book every did.  The case should have been dismissed out of hand simply by being filed by Ventura.

sorry, but if you tell a ridiculous lie about someone in a book and it damages their reputation, it doesn't matter if you die coincidentally sometime later.  the guy you lied about should still get his day in court, even if its against your estate instead of against you.

We train Seals to kill. Not to write books or negotiate the intricacies of civil torts.

If you're going to do anything in the public eye, lawyer up. This includes butt-chugging Franzia with your frat buddies. Or not.

Yeah, it's pretty disgusting that a person has to resort to a lawsuit when a crazy jackass is spreading lies about him.

I agree, people shouldn't tell lies about other people and then profit off those lies.

Liars shouldnt be given a pass on being liars just because they were in the military. The dead SEAL should have his honrable discharge revoked.

Ventura has all the right in the world. Some crazy punk makes up a less than flattering story about you, sells it to the media, makes money in book sales, and Mr. Ventura should just accept it and move on? No! fark that punk!

I never will understand how Jesse Ventura knew Kyle was talking about him in a story that was "completely fabricated" and he was never mentioned by name. I don't believe it was quite as fabricated as Ventura would like us to think.

Yeah, the suit came before the defendant was killed.

Oh, and libel is more than just shiat-talking. It's saying clearly false things that ruin people's lives in demonstrably financial ways. It's not easy to win a libel suit in the US, so when someone does win, their case usually has significant merit.

Of course, it's possible to dislike both sides in a fight, which I do.

I think the right wing outrage about this one is just fascinating. "Sure, Chris Kyle got rich by making shiat up and defaming famous people, but that's ok because he was a navy seal."

I mean, I'm no Jesse fan by any means, but good on him for going after this huckster's millions. His book should be pulled by its publisher, and everything in it should be considered to have been made up whole-cloth.

Because Kyle went on a media tour and named Ventura as the guy.....on several occasions.

/Kyle was obviously a badass, as many parts of his military record have largely been verified. But he was also a blowhard who loved the spotlight a little more than he should have after he got out of the service.

Let's apply some logic to this.  In Venturas own words:

""But the emotion is [about] what's been taken from me. I can't go to UDT [Underwater Demolition -SEAL reunions anymore because that was the place I always felt safe, and who will be next to throw me under the bus? I'd have to spend my time looking over my shoulder."

Now, if this whole thing is just some big lie told by Kyle, and Ventura didn't say any of those things... Why can't he show his face at SEAL reunions?

hmmm..  Why would you want to stay away from SEALs....

Testimony from the trial by an active duty Navy SEAL:

Navy SEAL John Kelly said Tuesday that he was at the California bar attending the funeral wake of a fellow SEAL the night "American Sniper" author Chris Kyle said he punched Jesse Ventura for making offensive statements.

Kelly says he saw the former Minnesota governor on the ground, and earlier had heard him make disparaging statements about SEALs.

"We're all doing the wrong thing, not the mission you guys should be doing, you guys murder women and children," Kelly said.

He admits he had 10-15 drinks that night and never heard Ventura say "You deserve to lose a few" as the book claims.

From the article:

"Being level-headed and calm can last only so long," Kyle said in his book. "I laid him out. Tables flew. Stuff happened. Scruff Face ended up on the floor."

Kyle later said in media interviews while promoting his book that "Scruff Face" was Ventura, who served in the Navy's Underwater Demolition Teams during the Vietnam War era.

Maybe because the guy said he knocked out a celeb nicknamed "Scruff Face" in his book, then later publicly said that "Scruff Face" was Jesse Ventura? I think Ventura's a nut, but that's a pretty easy A to B connection.

This. Especially when the author is well known for being a shiattalking bully for his entire life.

For those that unaware, the guy Ventura sued would brag about taking weekends off to go murder Americans that he felt were bad. And while it was almost certainly all BS, what kind of person repeatedly brags about killing their own countrymen for fun?

Admittedly, it is pretty difficult to understand.  The book told a story about how he beat up "Scruff Face."

Kyle later said in media interviews while promoting his book that "Scruff Face" was Ventura

And Kyle openly stated Scruff Face is Ventura.  But now I forget who Scruff Face is.  I'm lost, can anyone help me out?

Are you being serious here? He went to court to establish that it was a lie, and won. That doesn't necessarily mean that Kyle doesn't have a true believer squad. You should know, it's clear that you're one of them.

I wonder if the retired members of the Seals could start filing lawsuits against Jesse all around the country, with a claim that Jesse lying about being a Seal has in some way diminished or damaged them?

Jesse, despite his claims never earned his Seal trident.  He only completed the first half of the training (Basic Underwater Demolition) and was designated a "frogman" and served with Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) 12.  In order to earn the designation Seal (at that time) he would have had to undertake another 12-24 weeks of training.

It was only after Vietnam that the UDT units were assimilated into the Seals.  Those serving at that time in UDT were made Seals when the units were integrated.  Jesse is claiming that he is a Seal, because of what happened to the units AFTER he left the service.

This is basically the same as Bill O'Reilly claiming he won an Emmy, because a TV show (Inside Edition) he once worked for, won an Emmy for reporting for a story which they aired some months after he had left the show and which he had no input.

Curious, and relevant, fact to omit from the article.

In TFA it said Kyle said it was Venture during an interview if Kyle had kept his mouth shut nothing probably would have come of it.
