What would the world be like without hoarders?

They can leave the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition and it won't be stolen.

I saw a car that was as full as that in the nice part of my town tonight; the area where the restaurants serve food for $20 a plate, and it's not unusual to see a Lambo cruising around. Except the one I saw had just appeared there since the day before, so I know it was driven there; and it had no paint left. All the paint had been worn off, nothing but bare metal, plastic wrap windows, and bumpers reattached with twine and duck tape.

*shudder*

So that guy is a regular at that place? Screw that, I wouldn't service a car like that if I had a repair shop or whatever place that is.

What do you do to get rid of roaches? Park it in the sun, leave the engine running, and windows shut, heaters on? Or do they like heat?

Roaches love heat.  Minute amounts of it at least, like the little bit put out by the refrigerator light in the short bursts when it's on, or the tiny amount generated by a clock radio.  They're ectotherms though, along with all insects (and, well, everything except birds and mammals), can't regulate body temperature, so it doesn't take that much to kill them with heat.  50 C/120 F or so for some period of time I think.

So, yeah, a car closed up for a while on a hot day might do it, so long as it's uniformly heated and there's not any nooks and crannies that are cool enough to survive in.

Funny you should ask...

When we moved to Guam many years ago, my father's employer provided a car.  We quickly learned that it had roaches (but not  nearly as bad as in the video.  It was a piece of crap Toyota Tercel with vinyl seats, floor headliner, etc., so everything in the car was wipe-able.  We set off a bug bomb in the damn thing.  Vacuumed out the dead ones, wiped the surfaces down and we were good to go.  Might not have been the best idea, but it solved the problem.

you start by getting rid of all the food and drink in it.

I knew a guy who got a few rats as pets and one of them escaped in his car.  He couldn't find it until he cleaned out the left over lunch that had been sitting in the back seat, which may have actually kept the rat alive.  I'm not sure how log rats can survive without food.

Had a friend that used to work at gamestop about five years ago,  somebody traded in their PS2 and when they went to test it the fan made weird clunking noises.  They took off the case and the whole inside of it was alive with cockroaches.  They immediately sealed it up,  wrapped it entirely in plastic, and sent it back to the corporate offices to be "refurbished."   The amazing this is that I live in eastern washington, in a desert, and i've never actually seen a live cockroach the whole time i've been here,  your house would literally need to be horrendously nasty for cockroaches to take up residence.

Heh.... I have armored roaches and even nuclear roaches in my "Conk The Roach" mobile game. The nuclear ones are more satisfying though - they can set fire to nearby roaches when crushed.

Even so, I don't have as many roaches as that guy has in his car. You know he's going to drink from that open bottle of coke that was swarming with roaches when he gets back to his car.

Saw a car like that just outside of Waikiki a few years back.  Totally piled with crap and on the top of the pile of on the passenger's seat was an open family-sized jar of mayo, parked in the sun with all the windows up.  The entire interior of the car was a moving mass of roaches.

We had just eaten sushi.  Kind of took the enjoyment out of the meal.

Lived in an apartment that had roaches once.  People all complained about it, but other than a few my cat killed the first week, never saw them again.  This cat would kill flies, moths, etc, but never ate them, just left their carcass on the floor or brought them to my feet like a present.  Thought it was weird that other than the first week, never saw a cockroach for the next 9 years.  zOther tenants complained about it all the time.  Went back to pick up a few items after I left, and there were about 10 of them visible.  I have always wonder if they KNEW not to come in with the cat there?  Creeped me out!
