Ah, TV Land... Just behind TLC and The Hystyry Channel in network decay.

2014-07-29 09:23:39 PM
Isn't TV Land the channel that plays old shows from the 50s and 60s, or have they broadened their offerings since I last paid any attention to them?

TV Land?! Might as well not even have a damn show ...

Nice guy. Never goes blue.

They were.

Now it's mostly third rate reality and original scripted stuff.

This sounds like total shiat. One season and gone.

Didn't he decapitate a giraffe in one of those Hangover movies?

Every time I see this guy, I can only remember the Law & Order episode he was in.

I listened to a The Nerdist podcast with him. He explained why he doesn't go blue. Essentially, he says going blue is the easy way to get the joke. Before I listened to the podcast, I thought he was funny. After listening, my respect for him grew.

Not that I don't enjoy blue comics. I just understood Gaffigan's reasoning.

/but he HAS cursed in his standup
//he just ain't blue

Why is he doing that?  I don't understand why he is doing that.  Do you know why he is doing that?????

In before lava pockets.

"Really? You're going to rely on my acting skills?"

I think he's pretty funny.

Giving him a show is a terrible idea

Is this going to be another one of those "comedian puts all his standup material on screen in sitcom form" shows?

TVLand has actually become a dumping ground for people who were sort of popular in the 80-90's who now need a job or a late career paycheck. Lots of people who had a somewhat decent career in the 80-90's are now on third rate shows on TVLand.

I hate this idea. Not because I don't like Gaffigan, I love him. He is one of my favs. I just see 0 chance his comedy is going to translate to a sitcom...

2014-07-30 05:47:12 AM
Yeah, add me to the 'Gaffigan's hilarious but single camera sitcoms are kinda over and how's he even gonna work in the other voice or whatever' camp.

Glitchwerks: I just watched that episode again two nights ago. :-)

/standup and law and order enthusiast.
//why no, I'm not fat, why do you ask?

Pilot got picked up by TV Land? Can a show do directly to reruns and syndication?

Good news: You're getting a show!

Fark: On TV Land

To wit:

Hot in Cleveland:  The Chick from One Day at a Time who married a rock star, The Nanny from Fraiser, The Chick from Just Shoot Me, and Betty White
There is some show with FRAN DRESCHER and one of the Christopher Guest mockumentary guys
Another show with Amazon Woman from 3rd Rock and Newman
Kirstie Alley got another show and dragged along Carla and Kramer

The rerun market has been taken over by MeTV, Retro TV, and Cozi TV, and they're all doing a much
better job of it than TV LAND ever did.

Add Antenna TV to that list.

-slaps head-

Of course! How could I forget?

There are also a spate of digital-only movie channels that run old time movies the way AMC used to, and
while they do cut in commercials, it doesn't look like they edit them for time.

While I am all for 'chord cutting', and love on demand content, there is still something satisfying about
stumbling across a favorite old movie or TV show by accident while channel surfing.

Unfortunately, the old TV shows are almost all the edited syndicated versions, so it's pretty well pointless to bother watching them on one of the networks when uncut DVDs and Netflix are around for the majority of the shows.

As long as it's better than Delocated, I'm good. Then again, Delocated was the worst TV show ever produced, giving that Kardashian reality TV show a run for it's money, then beating it for worst.
