Is the obvious tag currently attending a gay wedding?  Because the fight is clearly lost.  Every state that bans it is being challenged in court, and all indications are that the courts are going to toss them.  Public opinion is rapidly shifting as well.  We have actual problems in this country, serious ones.  Where other people like to place their genitals isn't even in the top 100 issues.

This is not really surprising. Also, Roy Cooper is going to run for governor in 2016. He's got my vote.

Clearly, there are people who do not think it is that clear because they are still fighting tooth and nail against this existential threat to the nation.

And yes, I'm guessing the most vehement opposition to these laws comes from people who have suppressed their natural urges and really want to take it.

"Our attorneys have vigorously defended North Carolina's marriage law, which is their job," Cooper, a Democrat,
...
The attorney general said last year he supports same sex marriage but promised his views wouldn't interfere with his job of defending North Carolina's constitutional amendment against it

Ok, so this isn't really a guy being the better man and admitting when his side is defeated.  This is a guy smugly telling his opponent that it's time to be the bigger man and admit that they've been defeated.
Being that he's the state attorney general, it's good that he's telling his employees this, however.  I'm sure he's looking forward to using his time more productively.

Retort about how women are responsible adults and not property, clearly violating Christian teaching which this country was founded on.

From another article:
Gov. Pat McCrory, a Republican, and GOP legislative leaders already have expressed apprehension about Cooper's legal role.
The General Assembly passed a law this year giving itself the authority to defend itself in court with its own lawyers, rather than relying on Cooper's office.

Unfortunately, the Speaker can appeal even if the AG won't.

Same guy who stepped in and threw Mike Nifong out after the Duke Lacrosse incident.

On April 11, 2007,   dropped all charges and declared the three players innocent. Cooper stated that the charged players - Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty, and David Evans - were victims of a "tragic rush to accuse." The initial,'sMike Nifong, labeled a "rogue prosecutor" by Cooper, withdrew from the case in January 2007 after the North Carolina State Bar filed ethics charges against him. That June, Nifong was for "dishonesty, fraud, deceit and misrepresentation", making him the first prosecutor in North Carolina debarred for trial conduct. Nifong served one day in jail for lying about sharing DNA tests (), although the lab director says it's a misunderstanding and Nifong says it's weak memory. Mangum faced no charges for her false accusations as Cooper declined to prosecute her.

I love it. The outcry that the AG isn't doing his job and not fighting for their traditional bullshiat... and the next breath they'll decry the wasted funds. If only them durn libtards would stop trying to attack their beliefs they wouldn't have to spend money defending (and losing) all of their commie lies!

Here in KY, our ban was struck down and our AG refused to appeal. Then our governor, a lame duck governor of all things, decided to sue with our tax dollars because gay marriages don't produce children, which is bad for KY's economy, because reasons.

What the hell?

PA did this when our AG refused to appeal. Brought in a private firm to continue the defense. It did not go well for them, as the lawyers they hired were apparently from Liberty or Bob Jones and we completely flabbergasted when presented with counter arguments.

I keep seeing a number of them try to pull the "Republicans freed the slaves and gave women the right to vote", etc, while pointing out how the Democrats started the KKK. Point out that once upon a time the Republicans were the liberal party and you get told you're creating in revisionist history.

Even when on the wrong side of an issue, some of them are eager to say they were right all along and it was the political opponents that were wrong the entire time.

I've mostly stopped trying to inform.. now I do a lot of pointing and laughing. It's has pretty much the exact same efficacy.

At this point it seems the fastest way to legalize gay marriage in a state is to pass a law banning it.
