On a side note, I like using the "he won't be coming down for breakfast" cliche.

There's something to put on your headstone - the first character to die in "Die Hard".

Man, remember when everyone was worried the Japanese would own us all? Back to the Future II did it, Seinfeld did it a few times, tons others I don't know about. I don't even remember why/when it stopped. Pre 9-11 I know.

I do. It kind of died in the mid-90s after their economy collapsed. It was the usual suspects: asset overvaluation, credit to people shouldn't have got it, you know how it goes

They should have brought the black hacker guy for one of the sequels.  He was only knocked out by the limo driver guy, he had deniability. He would have fit in with the 4th film.

Die Hard will always be one of the greatest action movies ever. But I never understood why Karl, a German, looked confused when Hans told him in German to shoot the glass, and only understood what he meant when he repeated himself in English.

I would say the original Die Hard is up there with Raiders and Jaws as films that are damn near perfect.

One of two things.....perhaps Karl didn't notice that McClane was barefoot thus couldn't understand why Hans would want him to shoot the glass until Hans repeated himself....regardless of what language was used.

Or because 'Schiess dem fentser' is grammatically incorrect German.

You see, Hans used the same tone of voice for both statements. But while this might sound like a harsh command in English, it's a lilting lover's enticement in German.

Flower Drum Song ends up a casual mention at the bottom of the article? I'd always understood it was a bigger deal than that.
