One of those rare occasions where being proud to be an Eagles fan is a good thing.

2014-07-28 08:31:23 PM
somebody needs to remind Chip Kelly that all the hype and stuff is the reason he makes millions per season
- Pete Prisco (@PriscoCBS)

That's the dumbest thing ever. I'm seriously. Chip Kelly gripes about the hype, and Pete Prisco responds with, "Oh YEAH? Well, if it wasn't for US, there wouldn't even BE any hype!"

Prisco needs to get over himself ...

2014-07-28 09:07:15 PM
Prisco is a jackass. He should be kissing Kelly's ass for being around so the Priscos of the world can earn a living talking about them.

Don't let Mel Kiper Jr. hear about it.  He'll have an aneurism.

Im 100% with Chip Kelly on this and against that jackass Prisco.

its weird but in Chip Kellys short time in Philly he has taken the team from being the most easily despised in the NFL (Im lookin at you Michael Vick) to probably the most likable team in the NFC East. There I said it. I dont hate the Eagles this year and will try to tolerate their fanbase.

I'm sure Kiper preferred it when he was the only dude anyone knew about with the draft. With the expansion to thirty different networks worth of "draft analysts," his power is diluted.

I would like to see a satire of a Christmas Draft, wherein months are spent analyzing what kinds of gifts people will buy for others based on lists provided months before vs. weeks before, based on what kinds of things the person has acquired since then...

Then, by the time Christmas rolls around, the people don't even really give a f*ck what their presents are anymore.

Some Bass Playing Guy: Prisco is a jackass. He should be kissing Kelly's ass for being around so the Priscos of the world can earn a living talking about them.

Yeah, this.  Prisco manufactures hype for a living - nothing more.  No wonder he feels so threatened by Kelly saying "cut it out".

Wait wait...more accurately, the people receiving the presents will be happy while all the "analysts" will tell everyone about how unhappy they should be.

Prisco is a national sports "writer" (whiner, complainer, and grump is more like it). He's essentially been a voice of negativity and yelling at clouds for at least the last 10 years, if not much longer. Keith Olbermann essentially ripped him apart several months ago when Prisco decided to complain about how the poor NFL was being robbed and treated unfairly in the concussion settlement talks.

NFL.com Analysis of 2014 Eagles Draft

1st Rd: Marcus Smith, OLB "Marcus Smith is a pretty exciting edge player. The important thing ultimately is 'can this kid play?' They have Connor Barwin on one side and Trent Cole, who will turn 32 years old, on the other. In that scheme he's a perfect fit. The pick attacks an area of need for the Eagles, and they got some extra picks in the process. 5.6/10"
2nd Rd: Jordan Matthews, WR "He'll fit in beautifully in Philadelphia and in Chip Kelly's offense. He makes tough catches. He has a big body. He ran faster than a lot of people anticipated (4.46-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine). The Eagles get Jeremy Maclin back. They have added Matthews and Darren Sproles. This team is going to be the first-, second- or third-leading scoring team in the league. 5.7/10"
3rd Rd: Josh Huff, WR "Huff can play inside or outside. He plays receiver like an old running back. 5.2/10"
4th Rd: Jaylen Watkins, CB "He is a corner who also has played safety. Watkins was the only one of three Florida corners who ran well at the NFL Scouting Combine. He can cover in the slot, will tackle and will be a special teams player on Day 1. This is the type of pick you want to start with on Day 3 of the draft. 5.3/10"
5th Rd: Taylor Hart, DE "To me, if I had to make a comparison now, he looks like a young Brett Keisel without the beard. He's got a promising future as a five-technique in any 3-4 defense. He broke his foot at the end of the (2013) season but he was a four-year starter. He's 6-foot-6, 280, can run and he's got violent hands. 5.2/10"
5th Rd: Ed Reynolds, FS 5.1/10
7th Rd: Beau Allen, DT "He doesn't move great, but is a tough run stuffer. He brings a little bit of size; this kid wins with size. He's a two-down thumper. 5/10"

Incorrect. They trade this year's first and third for little Timmy's older brothers bike which is a few years old but was really cool in its time and if we just oil the chain and maybe take it over the right jump it can be sweet again. Also, we'll spend a year's future allowance on Timmy's older brother's bb gun which is sure to get us into trouble but undeniably awesome.

If they were journalists, stories like Mantei T'eo's girlfriend would've been investigated and reported by one of the major outlets and not Deadspin.  (sorry Bubbaprog but you aren't CBS, NBC, ESPN or SI...yet) the rest should be ashamed to take a paycheck.

I don't think that's the ONLY story that hasn't been investigated to "protect the shield"

What 'stories' have Sports reporting outlets broken?  Carolina and Okie State academic fraud, anything else?  I seriously doubt that's all the dirt in sports that needs closer scrutiny from the fourth estate.

Out of curiosity, why are you picking on the Eagles for this?  Michael Vick committed those actions while he was on the Falcons.  Only after Vick did his time in prison did the Eagles sign him.  In fact, despite rumor after rumor of transgressions with the Falcons, Vick was pretty controversy free with the Eagles.

It is crazy.

I keep thinking that one of these days the NFL has to hit "Peak Hype."

I like the Bills, but the lead story in the Sports section of the Buffalo News every day this week has been something along the lines of "so-and-so caught a pass in training camp today."  The lead story!

Jesus Christ, that's not a story!  Go find some actual sports going on and write about them.  I know it's harder in the summer with less going on, but you can try a little harder.

You know the best example of that? The draft.

Up until a couple of years ago, the draft was perfect. It was an excuse to sit around on a Saturday in April, drink beer, and talk about football. It was relatively low-key, and basically filled up some time on ESPN.

The NFL couldn't let that stand, though. They moved the first round to a Thursday, which cut out the "let's meet at Bill's house and hang out" aspect of watching. They then spread the remaining rounds over the weekend, which makes the process drag out interminably.

Suddenly, a fun day of hanging out and talking trash became a 4-day marketing extravaganza that's far less appealing than what it replaced.

But got 10 times the ratings.

Face it, you hype and advertise something enough, suckers will come beating down a door to give you their money (or in this case, eyeballs).

Tangent. After moving to a new state and new city fresh out of college I needed to find a job..any job. I happened to take one as an inside sales rep for one of those "buyer's clubs". (buy direct from the manufacturer! save big!). It was just a dialing for dollars gig and I lasted 3 whole days before I quit in disgust. But the salient point that has remained with me for 20+ years is what one of the owners said. "It's a numbers game. We dial hundreds of people per day, 90% of them will hang up on you. But! There is 1 out of 10 people that will buy anything. That's the person we are after." That's advertising in a nutshell. That's hype. Find the 1 out of 10 people that will buy anything.

As I get older, I find I care less and less about sports as a whole.  I still like to watch the occasional Dodgers game on TV (and with the Time Warner fiasco, that is less and less), but it doesn't really bother me if I miss one (or several).  The NFL has become just kind of background noise on Sundays, as I rarely take time to sit and actually watch the games anymore.  I'll casually peruse the scores on Sunday night/Monday morning, but I have no interest in fantasy football anymore and I don't particularly care about the draft.  There's just too much other stuff going on in my family (kid going off to college, other kid starting high school, parents/inlaws getting older and needing a little more attention and/or help, etc).  Methinks, there is no way that this much saturation is sustainable, especially with the (still) prevalent head injury issues in the NFL and the outrageous amounts of money involved in all sports, that is driving the middle and working class farther and farther away from the games.

I just plain dont like the piece of shiat nor his mentor Dungy. There are a whole lot of bastards who get out of prison after doing heinous crimes that I dont like and never will. Just because the so-called justice system thinks somebody is a great guy now doesnt mean I have to or even should. You can go ahead and drool over him with all the sympathy and forgiveness that you want but I wont have a kind thing to say about him.
