The last time I was in NYC (2002 as a side trip to a wedding in New Jersey), I made it a point to stop at Rupert Jee's for a sandwich. He was so kind to all the visitors who wanted to take their picture with him. And he was busy running his deli. And in case you were wondering, the Reuben sandwich was as delicious as any, generous in size, and very reasonably priced.

He left because he thought he could do better elsewhere, right?

As for the show, while John Stewart is 5x the host that Kilborn was, TDS 1.0 did have one thing going for it, and that was that it WAS fake news. It was all fake stories and interviewing lunatics out in cow fields. It was far more random and entertaining, while 2.0 is good, it tries to be real news.

What ever happened to Mujibur and Sirajul?

I remember being on a family vacation in South Dakota when they were there 94. The hotel they stayed at was "Very clean." and "Super nice."

The depressing part is how well they succeed at it compared to the folks who are supposed to actually be the "real news".

They lost their jobs when their boss closed the souvenir store in 2003.

/hopefully they landed on their feet at another store
//or maybe they just went back to Bangladesh

Not sure where they are now, but K&L Rock America closed down a number of years back.

The bigger and very pleasing news, which I hadn't heard and the headline ignores, is that The Late Show is staying in the Ed Sullivan Theater.

What's depressing is people who actually buy into this line of thought.

I'm with you, but I'm sure if you flip to CNN for twenty minutes in the middle of the day you might agree. fark, even BBC World News feels like it must cover "lighter side" shiat alongside whatever limb-removing deadly horror is currently terrorizing the planet, and PBS Newshour has given some interviews that are PR for some bullshiat book or business rather than something relevant.

Maybe if you consider Bill O'Reilly and morning chat shows "news," it's easier to come to this conclusion.

My question too. Who wouldn't want a sandwich featuring a lovely Chèvre Noir?

IIRC Kilborn was the 1st host of The Late Late Show.  Tom Snyder had the time slot but the show was called Later.

Nope - it was called "The Late Late Show" from the beginning, with Snyder hosting.

"Later" was on NBC with Bob Costas and Greg Kinnear, though Snyder occasionally guest-hosted.

Ok, thanks.  Guess I should've looked it up.

Strangely enough, I didn't know that either.
I was just being snarky re: Ferguson/Kilborn
