Barney Google (with the Goo-Goo-Googly Eyes).  I've installed a Victrola on springs in my flivver so that I can listen while out for a jaunt.  It's the Darb, I say.  Sometimes I drive over to the local joint in my breezer for a joe with my dame, and I have that playing.  It's a patella apiarius,I tell you.

Depends on my mood. Tchaikovsky 's Violin Concerto in D major op.35 if I'm feeling chill and just want to drive. Tool's Sober if I'm felling shiatty/pissed. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's Thrift Shop or Katy Perry's Roar if I'm feeling silly.

Currently in heavy rotation are the full discographies of The Black Angels, Dead Meadow, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, BJM, Dandys  and My Morning Jacket.

Lots of big trucks on the road, so I go with Weird Al's Truck Driving Song.

"Got these 18 wheels a-rollin'
until the break of dawn
'cause I'm drivin' a truck
with my high heels on."

Automatic Midnight by Hot Snakes. May destroy speakers and cause speeding tickets.

Seeing as most songs are under 5 minutes long, unless you're only going to the local convenience store, I would think you would need several favorite driving songs.

As for mine, I've never understood the concept of having certain music for any particular activity. If I like something, I'll listen to it regardless of what I'm doing. What I listen to may change with mood, but not my activity.

Flirtin' With Disaster, Molly Hatchet.   In most states (especially the South), all you have to do is tell the trooper that pulls you over that you were listening to that song.  No ticket.  It's impossible to do less than 90 while listening to that.

/it's the law

The entire latest Fastball album, "Little White Lies". Nice blend of upbeat pop-rock and chill acoustic-y stuff. They're my go-to warm-weather-windows-down band.

It's really hard to compare people to the Beatles, because of all the cultural connotations, but on a purely "this is what the music sounds like" level, they're very early-to-mid Beatles with just enough Austin weird to keep it interesting.

(Not like you tell they've been my favorite band for over half my life...)
