It's a catchy tune:

A hot Zambia night
when I ate a bat
now I'm bleeding out
quite near death
I need you
to soothe my head
Tell me I'm cute
before I'm dead

Doctor, doctor, give me the news
I gotta bad case of Ebola
No pill is gonna cure my ill
I gotta bad case of Ebola

The worst thing about the Ebola (aside from the disease itself) outbreak is that many Africans, especially in the rural areas, don't trust western medicine and hospitals, so they'd do stupid stuff like kidnap their infected relatives from the hospital, or attack hospital workers. There was a story about one former nurse who claims that Ebola is a cover story so hospitals can carry out cannibalistic rituals.

Every time they do this, they infect thousands more people.

With the amount of auto tune in that song, everyone involved in its production should die of ebola.

Wait til Ebola hits the West; this nurse will be hired as a panelist on "The View" within hours.

where the water there reminds you of dirty toilets
t-i-o-l toilets
he sat next to be and he bled from his eyes
I asked him what he had and with painful cries he yelled EBOLA
E-BO-L-A Ebola Ba-ba-ebola

It isn't at global shiatstorm levels yet.

But, I'd be concerned about any trips to Africa in the next few months. It is the exact opposite of under control.

What are the odds it hits global shiatstorm levels?

Fair to middling.

We know how to easily control it if it escapes out of Africa.  Standard US infection control measures stop it.  Things like isolation, etc.  It's spread by contact with bodily fluids from the infected.

The reason why it spreads in Africa is people don't trust Western doctors, or they don't have access to adequate health care.  Once they contract it, they end up infecting the people who care for and bury them, who then infect the people who care for and bury them, and so on.

So far, it's not airborne, which is the *BIG* worry.  If it can be transmitted via airborne means (sneezes, breathing, coughing, etc.) that makes it much, much harder to isolate in case of an outbreak.

TFA: The disease has just arrived in Nigeria via an airline passenger whose flight landed in Lagos, triggering fears Ebola could be poised to spread to another country or result into a global outbreak.

Nah, pretty damn low.  Look at dittybopper's post.  Ebola isn't actually all that contagious.  Some smart quarantine work, in actual hospitals, and that disease will be stopped cold.  At the moment, I doubt it does much if any damage outside of Africa.

Yeah, if it mutates and becomes airborne, then we're going to be in big trouble.
