"Child sex charges"

I'm using my magical warlock powers to predict that this will not be the last time he gets severely beaten in prison.

Mercer County deputies say 41-year-old Bradford Spencer, along with another inmate named Shannon Comer, beat 56-year-old James Irvin with their handcuffs while they were in a cell together.

The belief in vigilante justice, like religion, is quite popular among the upstanding residents of our penal institutions.
Who would have suspected that people of shiatty character would have shiatty values?

We've already lost the 4th Amendment. Just repeal the 8th already and we'll be happy.

Yeah I'm not understanding either how they beat him with objects that should have been restraining them.

Pros: Even hardened cons don't like "chomos" as they call them.

Cons: We can't morally allow prisons to place inmates in great danger.

Solution: Wheel of Pain.

It solves many problems all at once. Creates more, no question, but I think the problems that will arise are much less than the problems that will be solved.

So am I supposed to be sad that, even with the billions of dollars we're spending on prisons, we can't provide even basic physical security for prisoners? Or am I supposed to be happy that, even though our penal system is more or less unrelated to practical justice, the lawless society we create therein might actually produce better justice than our legal system? Or am I suppose to be sad that those are more or less the same thing?

Article is a two-fer

"Chief Deputy Darrell Bailey tells us two other inmates beat another prisoner named Cassidy Byrd, in a separate incident on the same day. Byrd is accused of abusing his infant son to death.

His attackers, 32-year-old Stephen Reed and 33-year-old Mark Marshall, are each charged with battery. Their hearings have not yet been set. Video of all this is not yet available to WVVA."

zimbomba63: He will probably be killed by a lifer for the "cred" it will bring.

No. Contrary to the headline (can you imagine that?), this did not happen in a prison. It happened in a jail where all these people were awaiting trial or arraignment. If and when Mr. Diddler goes to prison, he'll be put in special pop, and sequestered from the gens. No "lifer" will ever get a shot at him - and after this incident, I imagine he'll be sequestered for the rest of his time in the county jail system.

If the guy delivering worked his cuffs off some how, you use them as knuckledusters and just wail on the beat-ee.

Them prison cuffs is sturdy too, won't dent as easy as regular cuffs.

Maybe, or maybe not.  Think of Jeffrey Dahmer.  You would think he would have been in a segregated unit, but, I believe he was beaten to death by some con with a mop handle.

The priest up in Boston (Geoghan?) got choked out while in the infirmary I think. If you're locked up for a decade it only takes a 5 minute security goof-up to get you killed.

I doubt this really happened.  Stories like these are leaked to the media by the police to scare child abusers.   It's a good strategy but I call false flag!

Ever read "Night Watch" by Terry Pratchett?

Hands together with heavy metal holding them = 'you have a hammer'.
Clumsy, but effective.

That's the problem with the prison population; no respect for the process. Kicking someone's ass before they have been convicted, instead of waiting for the conviction and final imprisonment to carry out their punishment.
It just ain't right.

Wolf892: Now, now... prison is for rehabilitation, not corporal punishment. It doesn't matter how hard this guy diddled some kids, he still deserves the same respect and care and safety in prison as an inmate who broke a window to steal some bread to feed his sister's child.

He will diddle again... Unless he learns the meaning of the law!

When your wrists are cuffed together and you bring them down on the victims head.

Duh.

Long ago, I was a revenue officer with the IRS, and my job occasionally led me to interview convicts in prison.  It was usually a three minute process.  Any  assets, any income? No, no.  Waaah, you wasted my one monthly visit.  Goodbye.

This one time an old man told me he owned a summer camp for kids in another state. Then he volunteered that he was in jail for molesting kids, and that the other inmates "did not treat him well."  I ended the interview, because frankly, I didn't want to hear their sob stories, or in any way amuse them by letting them babble.

Yes, officers in the other state did seize and sell his summer camp for children, because it was the proper financial action to pay down his back taxes.

Deserving as this guy is, I can't endorse inmate-administrated violence as a form of punishment.  Let alone rape as punishment.  It just isn't consistent enough, and it's kind of a way for a society to allow some hideous shiat and pretend that it wasn't us.

a) Why do prisoners have handcuffs on inside their cells?
b) Why are they sharing a cell? You'd think he'd get a single if he was a target. Or does that only happen to rich white men who are worth protecting?

No, actually, when I form judgements of things, I most deliberately do NOT take into account extremely rare events like Dahmer's death. I base it on my actual knowledge of what really happens in these situations, all but a statistically insignificant few times.

Prisoners willl often slide their handcuffed wrists under their legs, and get their handcuffed hands in front of them.  THey can, and often will, then lock their hands together, and then making a hammer motion, use the metal handcuffs around their wrists to beat the living hell out of someone.  Normally it is a cop or a guard they get the drop on.  Some guys have been killed this way in a very few rare cases.  Best part is, after you get done fighting with them, they wine and complain how you beat them while they were restrained and defensless.  Another favorite tactic is to wrap the chain of handcuffs around the fingers of a careless officer, breaking said fingers, or even cutting them off from the hand.

Somebody just dropped the ball. It's a county jail in Dumbf**kistan, it's not being run by Nobel laureates.
