Welp.  :(

TNA was reduced to sponsoring a Georgia Lottery scratch ticket game a while back.  It was a $2 ticket to boot.  That's generally the sign of impending doom, especially since the Falcons still manage to sponsor a $5 scratcher every year.

I'm trying to remember...back in the WWF days, didn't they get cancelled, and Vince ended up buying the hour of TV, and airing his show?  Essentially an infomercial for WWF, but Vince knew the importance of TV to support the live shows.   Am I crazy, or did that happen?

Perhaps TNA needs to think about that.

They could go the ROH route and syndicate.  Of course, that means they'll be dominating the 2 am Saturday night/Sunday morning block, but...

Last I heard TNA was starting to improve significantly in the entertainment department.  The last time two times a league did that the WWF bought em out(WCW, ECW).

I listened to a podcast he was on with JR. He says he has cleaned up with no booze and drugs because he has a new child and he doesnt want to end up dead before his time. He is going to AA meetings and still involved with the WWE addict programs. I think that the fact Vince is paying for that even if he is in a different promotion shows Vince wants him back after his contract ends in Oct. He could be a great "GM" on tv. He also said he would love to go to NXT and be a trainer. I hope he is healthy. No in ring work just a GM guy cutting promos is good enough for me.

They have had a rumored problem paying the performers for a while.  There were posts on various boards that checks were late or less than expected.

Frankly, I am surprised it last this long.  ROH has made it this long because they know when to cut bait on guys who they cannot afford.  TNA never learned that and kept bringing guys in that offered nothing to the promotion other than name recognition.  But those guys also cost them a ton of money - something they could not afford.

Some are suggesting they may approach Fox for a deal, since outside of baseball, NASCAR and UFC, FS1/2 has -no- ratings.
Given that Fox is currently in the process of trying to buy TimeWarner, that would be an interesting scenario.

He'd be awesome on NXT. It is so gimmick and comedy heavy, and he was the master of goofy but dangerous. Its too bad they moved up Bo Dallas, they'd be a perfect fit, but managers don't work on the main roster.

I think WWE foots the bill for lots of guys who are out of the company, simply because the other companies aren't going to and if someone ODs the headline is going to be "Former WWE wrestler", not "TNA wrestler".

Wellness policy is what they call the drug testing regime they built up after he who shall not be named did those things that shant be talked about. It is just about making sure people aren't going to embarrass the company, not actual physical or mental fitness.

I would not be surprised to see Spike offer a TV contract to Jeff Jarrett's promotion.  Jarrett, still a minority owner in TNA, could either buy out their assets, or more likely, bury them under the festering mass of Dixie's ego.

it isnt even a promotion yet, they have never had a show. GFW is a list of wrestlers and a website that sells t shirts.  I am still convinced it is a reality show about wrestling.

JR also mentioned ROH possibly being for sale.

If that is true WWE could own TNA and ROH's libraries.  The industry would just not be in a good place if that happens.  There will be way too much high priced talent on the indies and not enough places to make an actual living wrestling.

This is very not good.

WWE tried to get ahead of the game by launching the Network and holy shiat it did not work.  It was a great attempt and an awesome product but I think we are learning that cable TV is still powerful and that advertisers pay the bills.  Or something, I just know that the Network has not done what they were hoping it was going to do.

The same reason WWE wanted him back to promote Wrestlemania XXX. He and the rock are the only people who can get press attention outside the regular fanbase.

He's worth all that money if you use him to draw attention from some of the late night shows or Howard Stern or something and get an audience that doesn't currently watch wrestling to check out your show and then deliver something special that makes them want to come back.

If you literally just have him strut across stage doing his same tired "run wild on you brother" routine he is a waste. If they never hired Hulk they'd still be losing their TV deal today, they'd just have a bigger cushion to fall on.

Spending is a short term problem. TNA's long term problem is that it is an uncreative, low budget clone of WWE. It isn't distinct and it isn't any good. It is that simple.

I posted this in the Business(-Ah) tab thread last night:

The Network, while not exactly a flop, didn't pull in the numbers they were expecting and had the nice little bonus of pissing off cable/satellite companies to boot (DirecTV and Dish both ended up dropping WWE PPVs).

As for the TV deal.. well, not exactly sure what Vince OR Wall Street was expecting there, especially since the prime party they were negotiating with was NBCUniversal.. you know, the one owned by one of the cable companies you just pissed off? THE cable company? The one that already has a hate-on for streaming services? Yeah, that one. Not sure what leverage Vince thought he had over freakin COMCAST of all companies.

TNA did try to be a clone of WWE too often but I really do think they were miles better than they are often given credit for.  In my opinion their biggest problem was writing clean endings to their stories and putting their stars over in the end.  They did a lot of backstage stuff (unlike WWE), they focused on tag wrestling at times (unlike WWE), they featured the X Division at times (unlike WWE), each guy have a distinct character (unlike WWE), but they failed in seeing all these things through to Act III.  Act I and II were always interesting, the in ring was always above average, the KOs were generally above average but they really struggled in the star making and story finishing department.  I guess, in the end, that is a recipe for disaster.

I think they AJ story, and his departure, was the beginning of the end for TNA. I didnt want to believe it but seeing how well he is doing in Japan and how badly they are treading water since has be convinced.

However, Judy herself has refused to perform on camera, thus depriving us of the opportunity of seeing a second "Judy Bagwell on a Pole Match."

If it's true Spike doesn't renew deal w/Tna, it's a double edged sword IMO. 1. They WERE and ARE atrociously bad at advertising that show

Matt Morgan @BPmattmorgan  · 36m
obviously that it takes a TON of Tna's revenue away that they counted on to pay the wrestlers. But, 4 the co's future, I think the further

Matt Morgan @BPmattmorgan  · 36m
whatsoever. I never used to see us advertised except maybe an hour b4 impact started. Not acceptable. And 2. the bad side of sword is

Matt Morgan @BPmattmorgan  · 35m
they GET THE HELL AWAY FROM SPIKE, the better the co will be. That's just MY opinion obviously.

Matt Morgan @BPmattmorgan  · 30m
The most annoying part when still wrestling there was I'd see Bellator constantly advertised and we were doing a better # at the time. Hell,

Matt Morgan @BPmattmorgan  · 29m
even Manswers got better PR by the network than we did!! Again, in long run, this SHOULD BE better 4 Tna IMO.
