Hundreds of Africans a year get infected with Ebola.  Why is it suddenly a zillion times more terrifying because it's an American?

Because people from other countries don't matter. Duh.

Possibly deserving of a hero tag.

That's what they get for going to play around people with a highly contagious and deadly disease. Now this lucky contestant gets to be part of Nature's process instead of safely far from it laughing at the dying bastards.

They have chosen, poorly.

I think it's a brazillion times more terrifying because it's at least the third doctor to be infected with ebola in a week.

Why did you focus on the "american" part and not the "doctor" part?

Usually doctors* of any nationality don't fumble around with people bleeding from their farking eyeballs without some kind of...you know...protective equipment.

*real doctors.

I don't think it's so much that they're American, but more so that they're trying to help. And got a pretty shiat deal to boot.

I think we both know the answer to that question.

Because people think the doctor and the virus are suddenly jumping on a plane to Manhattan and NEWSFLASH SCAREMONGER WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE FREAKING THE F*CK OUT, MAN! The media said so.

Those are some selfless doctors, that's all I can say. Hero tag needed for them.

You know who gets shot most? Police and soldiers.

You know who gets eaten by tigers most? Zookeepers.

You know who drowns the most? Professional divers.

Doctors should have the HIGHEST risk of Ebola infection because they're the ones who will be in prolonged contact with infectious Ebola patients. If your family member comes down with Ebola, you can just run away or burn their things. But a doctor can't do either.

This is one of the many reasons I refuse to let my wife go to Africa on the various doctor missions the she's offered. Nobody in their right mind would go to farking Africa. There's a reason all our ancestors were smart enough to leave the place.

Can we say for sure they won't be a carrier even if they survive? We know basically nothing about this virus. So they could come prancing back to America with a virus in a dormant phase till it fires back up and starts getting spread here.

Fark those idiots, they deserve the stupid tag and to be banned from the US for life. Helping would be studying it in a lab and learning how to do something about it. Not frolicking about soon to be corpses that we owe nothing to and care less about us.

Some doctor's phlegm stuck on his bed sheet. Then the bed sheet put on the garbage can. A plane later came from the U.S. The garbage can was accidentally taken into the plane. The plane returned to the U.S. The garbage can was disposed there. An immigrant came searching for scraps. The immigrant found the bed sheet. The immigrant uses the bed sheet. The immigrant banged a whore. The whore banged some guys. The guys went to their houses. Everyone was exploding blood from every orifice in their bodies..

And that the story how all epidemics begin

Ebola is only contagious once people start exhibiting symptoms.

I'm not certain it goes dormant.
But, taking your argument into account, one might argue that your* cerebral cortex does.

Pretty sure the people who drown most are children and teens - particularly those that can't swim. And Latinos between 15 and 24.

Interestingly, women have close to 1/20th the chance of downing when compared to men.

Also, since we know how it's transmitted in the larger sense of the medical community knowing, and doctors have both this knowledge and specific training in preventing exposure, why are we being all sympathetic instead of neutral or outright making fun of him?

That's some critical doctoring failure, there.  I mean, sucks to be him, but when you go into a damned hot zone there is some expectation that you'll have done some minimal preparation there.

The scariest part is uneducated masses. There are probably more people there like that woman family. They get infected. They pass it as a flu or bout of diarrhea and still don't care. Given  the unsanitary conditions in third world countries, it is easy to guess why Ebola spreads very fast.

The murder rate separated by race is quite interesting.

Whites and Asians in US have a murder rate of like less than 2 per 100,000 or about half that of the EU. The overall murder rate in us is like 9 something per 100,000 or about 3 times the EU rate. Hispanics rate is like in the teens per 100,000 and blacks are like in the 60s per 100,000

http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs103/en/

usually less that 100 infections per year.
this is the largest outbreak ever. One woman was just "rescued" from a hospital and is now on the loose in a city of about 1 million people.
