Hit and run zombie?

pretty sure it is legal to shoot zombie in the brains

/I hate these people as much as the illegal bike assholes - so what if we shut down traffic in a city, we ROCK!!!
//I am surprised that more zombies havent been put back in their graves. seriously, Open Carry meets Zombie Walk is a mass shooting just waiting to happen.

1) you are terrified of zombies in the street
2) you pull your rifle to defend yourself if they come for you
3) they turn toward you and your 2nd friends
4) you shoot one, the rest turn and run at you!
5) full auto zombie shoot

That's a pretty sad zombie walk.  But then again, it's no longer 2007.  People still putting forth an effort toward zombie walks should be ashamed.

I'm torn on this.

Read eye-witness accounts...apparently the guy was deaf, got upset that his kids were afraid of the zombies, and started to lean on his horn while driving INTO the crowd.  People started banging on his car to get him to stop, as there were babies in strollers and other vulnerable people taking part who could be run down.  When the people started banging on his car, the asshole floored it and ground the skin off the old lady's arm (down to the bone).  He's a farking entitled douchebag that deserves to have charges filed.

Yep...buddy of mine was charged in high school with assault with a deadly weapon b/c he swerved his car at some kids that had chucked rocks at it.  He didn't come within 10 feet of the kids, but got charges anyway.  That was IN San Diego.

SubBass49: THIS video shows just what a DICKHEAD the driver was...

On one hand the video clearly shows a lady giving the driver the business while a fat guy sits on the hood (nothing out of the ordinary when driving around downtown).  Driver floors it and the fat guy punches the windshield as he falls off.  Driver runs over the girl.  The driver is clearly in the wrong.

On the other hand the video clearly shows the driver coming to a complete stop at the intersection.  The crowd turns on him with shouts of "Tackle him!. Flip that car!  Flip that car!".  Fearing for the safety of his children, he hits the gas and narrowly escapes a life threatening situation.

His defense is that he and his whole family are deaf.
So he didn't hear anyone say "flip that car".  Even if he had, someone saying "flip that car" is not a life threatening situation.  Even if he was mentally retarded and felt """""threatened"""", plowing through a bunch of random people is not the correct (or legal) move.

He stops at the intersection, just like everyone else. If he had waited like 10 minutes the parade would have passed and he could have crossed the street. Instead he starts driving into a crowd while honking his horn. The crowd "turns on him" because he is endangering peoples lives and they want him to stop. Then he speeds up through the crowd. The a**hole is luck no one died.

It's a major downtown area during a world famous festival, seriously dude get over yourself and wait.

I didn't think deaf people were allowed to drive either... especially when they get all crazy if you drive with 2 earbuds... It's hazardous if you aren't able to hear what is going on around you.

This is the video that should be shown in news sites. Driver is at fault. The people surround his car and sit on it because he keeps nudging into the crowd during the parade as a way to stop him.

2014-07-28 07:33:37 AM
Two things.
Deaf people are allowed to drive, they just have to carry a special card to alert the police during routine traffic stops. Unfortunately, there are instances where overzealous cops have shot drivers for reaching for the card in the glove compartment at the wrong time.

Two. If the whole family was Deaf as the article indicated (Thanks, Daily Fail), then that means you have several things going on, particularly if young children involved: scary people in costume, people with angry faces and indications of screaming, and banging on the car which causes massive vibrations. If you can't hear anything that is going on and have no context, then yeah... That's some scary stuff.

It may come as a surprise, but not everyone is aware of SDCC. They may not have known what they drove into.

That being said, the driver should have handled the situation differently. Told the kids to cover their eyes and wait a little longer. If it was an urgent matter, do what the rest of the world does: blow an illegal u turn and find a different route.

Parades?  It's not completely clear by the article (surprise), but it seemed to be a licensed/permitted parade.  Would you feel the same if it was a NRA and Veteran parade?

/I could see hating parades, but you could drive around or wait the half hour it takes to pass.
//the 'spontaneous' formations that block traffic are uncalled for.

They say the streets were not shut down for the "Zombie Walk" because the group did not have a permit.

Did they have a parade permit?  If so, then the driver was at fault.

No parade permit, and the resultant police presence, proper crowd control, and such, then I can empathize with this driver.

According to the article, the police blamed the driver, so I suppose that's that.

Well, it's kind of a fundamental rule, don't hit anything with your car.

Once that rule has been violated, then the cops have to determine why and where fault belongs. In some ways it doesn't even matter if the pedestrians were in the wrong, so long as the driver had enough time to stop before hitting anyone or anything he's obligated to do so.

If San Diego CC is anything like other large gatherings, I expect that the police were manually directing the crowd at the crosswalks, and gathering-sponsored events like this one would have been given the right-of-way.

/driver should face jail time
//doesn't matter that he's deaf

I thought I read somewhere that the driver and his family were leaving after attending the con. So yeah, if that's true, they knew precisely.

The driver was at fault regardless. You can't just try to wedge your car through a huge crowd of people at a crosswalk no matter what.

That's not what I suggested.  I said I could empathize with him.  Not that he'd be in the right.

It's the difference between a mob blocking a street, because they're a mob and will do what they please because fark you... and a venue that took the proper steps to ensure that everyone's safety and convenience is being considered.

There  is no difference to the driver, though. You're not allowed to run people over. Period. If a lot of people are crossing the street then tough farking luck. Either wait your turn or turn around. It doesn't matter why they're there, or who gave them a permit. You can't just try to cram your car into a large crowd of pedestrians and expect them all to clear out because special little you is in a hurry.
