That goal was  dirty . . .

but those kicks with the Broncos would hit his linemen in the back.

'Soccer' is a game many people around the world indignantly confuse with rugby (Europe) or football (U.S.).

There should be more of these.

and more of the extremely long pass from goal keeper, one bounce, kick the ball into the goal on the run goals too.

I saw one live. Just amazing coordination between the goal keeper and his team mate.

Problem with the extremely long shots is that they often go wildly astray or the GK recovers and easily catches it, making the shooter look like an idiot and angering his teammates.

I admit, I'm coming around to soccer. And I'm an ancient 45-year-old.

1. Games wrap-up in under two hours.
2. Young, motivated fan base at games who by all accounts are having fun.
3. Comes off well on TV (baseball has challenges there).
4. Not a lot of scoring but the ball is constantly moving.

I've said it before, but if MLS is competently run it will probably surpass MLB by the next generation. Not a huge deal as the NFL and NBA will still reign supreme but it would be a significant jump.

The long-ball goal was the perfect combination of "f*ck it, why not, we're down 3-nil" and "finely tuned athletic machine."  Brilliant placement and timing.  Rooney's first goal in that game was spectacular, too.

The vine they had of him popping off that 50-yd FG on the practice field is notable that it required so little leg movement from him.  Just a little pop and bam! 3 points.

He could only manage a 50-yarder in Denver?  No wonder he's been busted back to playing soccer.  That's nowhere near enough  leg to make it in the NFL

He took about a step and a half and hit the ball about 60.  If it was a full length 120 yard field, it would be about 70 yards.  You can poo poo on soccer all you want, but that is a lot of strength and power in that shot.

I was sat around 20 rows behind that goal. As soon as it was in the air, and I saw Amos' position, I told my mate "that's going in". Class goal, and there were a few of them on Saturday.

Seems like soccer players could get a job as a kick specialist on NFL team when they lose their ability to run 7 miles per game or what ever it is that happens when they get too old.

I also saw a video of C. Ronaldo kicking an American football. Impressive. Not so impressive: him trying to throw it.

I'll bet there was Pjanic on the streets of London after that shot.

I'll actually stay up for the end of the Sounders-Galaxy game tonight, and it starts at 7:00 pm!

Looks like the old FIFA '98 game.  It was fun to do that play against the English National squad and their goalie, David Seaman.

"He lobs Seaman from 60 yards"

/easily entertained :)

Nope, just never bothered to look into the background history of NFL kickers. Makes sense.  I like how the guy in the last picture still looks like he's playing soccer.
Kinda like that gymnast that did the Ninja Challenge thingie looked like a gymnast before the routine starts before she did each obstacle. Take deep breath, look at equipment. Breathe again. Go!
