Authorities say if you see a Mexican immigrant, put him in a sealed plastic bag and call for medical evacuation.

"Why did you open fire?"

"He coughed"

Nothing to see here.
I heard he converted to Christianity. So he's good now.

But the really bad news was that the woman at the epidemic's center had a TB strain resistant to at least two of the main drugs used to treat the infection. That's known as , or MDR-TB. It's especially hard to cure. The antibiotics can cost around $300,000 for a single case.

Um, shouldn't "missing for longer" increased the terrified outrage?

...Not completed the 9 month treatment... That's one way to get an even more drug resistant strain of TB. Great.

Cool. He exposed healthcare workers to active TB, and instead of staying put in the government provided hotel room and watch TV for 9mo, he took off. Awesome.

I participated in a bronchoscopy without respiratory precautions on a patient with undiagnosed TB about 2 months ago.  3 of 4 the people on the team have seroconverted and are on TB prophylaxis.  I have not, yet.

so, getting a kick, csb, etc...

I caught pertussis several years ago after a routine physical exam. Of  course I had been vacciated as a child, but this was when they were finding out that you might lose that immuity over time. Treatment was megadoses of emycin. damn that sucked, but now I know why it's called whooping cough.

Why the hell would you do that without a mask?? Not ragging on you personally, just why isn't it standard procedure, as much for the patient's protection as it is yours?

Now would be a good time to get all your immunizations updated.  Tell them you plan to take a trip to India or South American and get all the necessary shots.  If possible move north,  as close as possible to Canada as you can and make sure your passport is current.  Prepare for the worse then be pleasantly surprise if things go well.  My guess is the med scare will start in Texas first rather than CA...

Why would his being gone for 4 months, rather than a few days, make anyone less terrified? The longer he's out there, the greater the chance he has of spreading the disease and spreading it wider.

Dumbass.

Be sure to not allow illegal immigrants access to emergency rooms, because they will abuse the medical system.

Hey, turnabout is fair play, right? Sure, it's been a couple hundred years since white folk invaded and spread their diseases to the native populace, but whatever.

Coincidently, I was at Urgent Care the other day and saw the physician's assistant write "drug-resistant TB" on my chart. I panicked.

Me: "How can this be?! I came in here with explosive diarrhea!"

PA: "Oh, haha, no...no, that's" drug resistant Taco Bell."

Also, the article says nothing about his being an illegal. As a matter of fact, had subby linked to a reputable news source and not a derp site whose source in turn is NewsMax, you'd have read this: San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Stephen Taylor said he did not know the status of Rosas Cruz's residency.

So, yeah.

2014-07-27 07:10:43 PM
The article states that this guy "tested positive with a drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis" and then goes on to say "health officials are concerned that he may be infected with a drug-resistant strain of the virus".
Nice choice of source as usual, Subby. You farked up again.

That is a very good question that i don't have an answer to, other than to tell you the pulmonologist attending had a labcoat pocket full of Doritos that he was eating during the procedure.

Unless you're hanging out with the guy in close-quarters, or sticking your tongue down his throat, your worry about this is a bit excessive.

Yeah, it wasn't classic, no upper lobe involvement.  I think it ended up being miliary since the guy also had a spot on his liver.  I didn't hang around, so I'm not sure how it all ended.  Oh, but he did end up being HIV+, which was unknown at the time too.  So he's got that going for him, which is not nice.

I did.

Assuming he's not contagious, the length of time he's been missing is irrelevant; beyond legal concerns, why should we care? If he is contagious, then his longer absence is worse.

Also, I made no comment regarding his residency. RTF comment next time. :)
