Better view, from behind home plate, with players all but falling through the backstop net.  (Yes, I know the original's tacked on to the end, whatever.)

My father took me to watch Nolan Ryan pitch many a game.  I saw a no-hitter, his 5000th K, and this fight.  Thanks, Dad, great times!

I was expecting this to be a fight in the stands. Because like soccer, baseball is so boring that people get liquored up and fight just to relieve the tedium.

I had to watch that twice and the 2nd time I laughed way too hard.

When are they going to make a baseball version of Slapshot?

gonna go with 'love it'. if you're 72 and try to jump at a much younger guy, you may want to plan for it to not go very well. the outrage of joe buck's sandy anus is just icing on the cake.

i think pedro had the bad end of that situation looked like he had a lose-lose in that scenario. don't know why the title was he clowned don zimmer.. the old man was charging him.. not saying it was the right thing for him to do it but I do agree that he did it a bit excessive but if he let him charge him and either knock him down or punch him or whatever he would probably not hear the end of it from his teammates about being knocked down by an old guy. but instead he gets bad publicity for throwing him down so lose-lose. the guy should have stayed out of it and been outside of the fighting and preventing the younger guys going in or anyone else from joining. not saying he deserved just he should have stayed out of it.

I understand Ryan keeps copies of that picture with him at all times, which he autographs and gives to people.

So it was the AAA affiliates of the Dodgers (who were in red) and the Diamondbacks (in dark blue) and much like their parent clubs last year, the Dodger players did the worst of the fighting (throwing the helmet, haymakers) and yet; the D'backs players got more ejections and will probably get more suspensions because you've got to protect the mighty Dodgers. Fark them.

And here's the best article on it, with some background. It started because a Dodger minor leaguer took his sweet time rounding the bases on a homer. Yeah, prick, you're going to get thrown at for that crap.

You know what sport is boring?  Football.

Seriously, a bunch of 3 yard gains and incomplete passes.  The rare exciting play has about an 80% chance of being accompanied by a flag.

Can we please stop pretending football is thrilling?

Football minus commercials, halftime, and pointless between-play standing around is pretty exciting.  This is why DVRs exist.

But yeah, way too much refball.

What you didn't see was, after the first pitch, the batter walking to the on with bat raised. Both sides were in the wrong.

To clarify--

Bolsinger threw up at Arruebarruena's head on the first pitch of the AB. From the seventeenth row, it looked like it hit the bill of the helmet. Instead, it struck the bat, and the call was foul. I'll go back to one of the few unwritten rules, illustrated by Shane Victorino a few years back: If you're going to throw at a guy, fine, but don't go after his head. Benches and dugouts cleared, but it was just a normal uniform check by both sides.

Next pitch was borderline, but ump called a strike. Arruenotspellingitoutagain decided to challenge the call. By then, we'd all had enough of him, never mind the five minute trot around the bases in an 11-0 game the night before.

A couple pitches off the plate before he flailed at one out of the zone for strike three. While Arrue stood on the foul line, just outside the box, the catcher bumped him tossing the ball to third. The rest made the video.

While most of us thought that Nevin was protesting his ejection while Berryhill ('topes manager and third base coach) remained in the game, he had little to object to in his catcher's ejection (didn't stop the 20 minutes of arguing that followed). Dude was grinding an Isotope face into the ground. Both sides brought bats and helmets on the field, both sides threw punches, and the only real surprise was that neither Berryhill nor Bolsinger were ejected for their roles.

This has been the toughest year to become attached to any of the Aces players. Mike Jacobs is pretty much the only carry-over from previous years. It's one thing to see "your guys" get promoted to the next level, but another when they all end up on different teams. Wily Mo Pena was a rental, and we knew it, but Colin Cowgill, Ryan Wheeler, Adam Eaton, Konrad Schmidt, Matt Davidson--being sold on those guys and watching them all blossom into legitimate players only to see them trade laundry at the next level--it's hard to trust the organization and especially hard to see any of these guys as more than transient.

The batter was a Dodger. The pitcher did what just about any team would've told him to do: at least buzz him for lolly gagging on a HR trot.

Maybe the Aces/D'backs did do something wrong but on the evidence presented, I don't see it.

As said, Bolsinger threw at the head. Never acceptable. Then the catcher giving a chest bump on the throw after strike three. Contact was wholly avoidable.

I missed that part. You're right on that one. He may get some punishment for that since he wasn't ejected after the brawl.

I think the batter was looking for something there, to be honest. It seems to me that if he hadn't been bumped, he'd be mouthing off anyway and we'd have the same result. The bump was a convenient excuse to start the fight.

BTW, I just looked at the HR that set the whole thing up. A guy that skinny shouldn't be jogging at David Ortiz speed.

He was absolutely looking to start something. He stood there for a second after the strike out and only stepped across the plate to "head to the dugout" when the catcher went to throw the ball to 3rd.

It almost looked like it was one of those fights to try to get the team to come together on the Red team side. It also looks like the batter over played his hand there as almost no one camI'me to his aid immediately.
