If you can control a light to make it blink on and off, you can send Morse code.  Pike should have learned Morse, then he could have testified fully (if somewhat slowly) for himself.

You do know that the whole franchise of star wars takes place "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away." Obviously Morse code hadn't been invented yet.

Thats as good an indication of your age than anything else.

It took Greedo 20 years to fire that shot.

If your society has space ships and replicators aplenty, they should be able to hook you up with something  at least as good as Stephen Hawking has now.

I was at that session (getting a kick out of....)

He said he was sitting in George Takei's chair.

Shatner wouldn't shut up, he spoke for about 65% of the time there.

He and Betty White are friends and animal lovers, but they clearly disagree about philosophy about the role zoos play for animal welfare.  It got a little uncomfortable for about 10 seconds or so.

Shatner said he'll be in the chair for a couple of weeks.

A slash is "-..-." in Morse. I send it all the time when I'm driving (/M = "mobile") and when I go set up my portable station (/P = "portable").

The reason why the translators do that is so that it's readable to the eye. You don't send a slant bar after every word.

Yes, I know, that's why I mention it, because Morse is still known, at least to the trained communications personnel like Lt. Uhura, in the Star Trek future.

2014-07-27 07:02:51 PM
I saw William Shatner perform live a few years ago (back when he was on that sitcom, by the way, go see a TV show taping if you can), and there was a bit of a dichotomy in what I saw.  The taping started at 6 and went for a few hours.

He came out from backstage and it was clear that he is an entertainer and was ready to perform.  Very much in it, eating up the cheers from the crowd, and when he was in front of the camera, he would hit his stride quickly.  But when he was not in a scene, he sat in one of the chairs on the set.  He looked a little tired, and while I think he was watching what was going on, I would not be surprised if he nodded off at least once.

So, I'm kind of surprised that he still showed up like that after such an accident (and that the injury was, relatively speaking, so mild), since he seemed to be showing a bit of his age even three years ago.  Though, I'm sure in a crowd like that of Comic Con, the guy is a rock star and will really eat it all up.
