Members of NASFARK,

As you may know, commercials are a constant scourge of television life. After all, someone has to pay the bills, right?

Unfortunately, NASCAR has some sort of thing where the more commercials and the more real good racing we miss (lead changes, cautions, etc.), the more money they somehow pocket. After all, if it isn't the France family getting rich every week, it sure is the pharmaceutical companies getting fat off the boner pill ads we must endure 36 weeks a year.

Therefore, I took it upon myself to get an unofficial tally of just what we, the race fans at home, miss as a result of greedy sports entertainment.

We already saw what FOX had in the way of commercials, but how did the last 6 races on TNT stack up to FOX's averages?

FOX's final stats were as follows:

TOTAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS: 246
AVERAGE BREAKS PER RACE: 20.5
AVERAGE PERCENT OF RACE MISSED: 30.8%
RACE WITH MOST BREAKS: Daytona 500
RACE WITH LEAST BREAKS: Richmond (even by my estimate, would not have reached 18)

Here were TNT's stats.

Race 14 - Pocono #1 - June 8, 2014
TOTAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS: 20
Laps Missed: 68 (35.7% of race)

Race 15 - Michigan #1 - June 15, 2014
TOTAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS: 19
Laps Missed: 85 (42.5% of race)

Race 16 - Sonoma - June 22, 2014
TOTAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS: 19
Laps Missed: 42 (38.1% of race)

Race 17 - Kentucky - June 28, 2014
TOTAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS: 21
Laps Missed: 114 (42.7% of race)

Race 18 - Daytona #2 - July 6, 2014
TOTAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS: 15
Laps Missed: 36 (31.8% of race)

Race 19 - New Hampshire #1 - July 13, 2014
TOTAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS: 21
Laps Missed: 121 (40.1% of race)

TOTAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS: 115
AVERAGE BREAKS PER RACE: 19
AVERAGE PERCENTAGE OF RACE MISSED: 38.4%

RACE WITH MOST BREAKS: Tie - Kentucky & New Hampshire #1
RACE WITH LEAST BREAKS: Daytona #2 (only because race was cancelled early on)

So as you can see, TNT's average number of breaks per race was a little lower than FOX's (helped by the rain-shortened Firecracker 400), but we missed a heck of a lot more race during their breaks, and this was just in 6 weeks compared to the 12 weeks I kept stats on FOX!

Thank you all for your continued patronage in NASFARK, and may we prepare ourselves for the final 17 weeks on ESPN with my new updated for 2014 ESPN CLIPPY!

Time once again for....

Your weekly NASFARK checklist! Ever changing and updated on the fly, just like the NASCAR rulebook.

(Created by    DanZero &    bluorangefyre, with contributions from Professor Farksworth, QueenMamaBee, Mzltplx, and a bunch of other Fark racing fans!)

1) Every 25th post is "DANICA," every 500th post is "CHECKERED FLAG!," hardcore gredunzas count, and every 1,100th post is, "Screw the gredunza, I just did the double!"
2) Somebody asking "ARE YOU NOT SPORTS ENTERTAINED?" before the 10th post
3) Somebody comes in with a humorous "left/right turn/going in circles" comment
4) BOOGITY in some form when race starts
5) Idols/Buddhas/Transformers/Reactors being fired up
6) Complaints about LOLTNT & ESPN race coverage (or if in TNT/ESPN coverage, how bad it is and how we pine for FOX again) ONLY VALID FOR 2014!
7) While we were away!
8) Green flag pit stops
9) The inevitable race commentator foul up
10) Phantom cautions
11) "Austin Dillon driving car number three... the number made famous by the late/great Dale Earnhardt."
12) MLP deployment ONLY in the following instances: sad Rainbow Dash when Princess Crumplefenders (AKA Danica) inevitably wrecks, happy Rainbow Dash if she's running in the top 20, charging Rainbow Dash if she's in the top 10, Nightmare Moon if we need some extra mojo to help the idols and Buddhas defeat car #48
13) Complaints and such if Jimmie Johnson wins again and celebrations from his fan(s)
14) Race is official when Kvapil, Reutimann, Wise or Danica bring out the caution (can be more than one)
15) BONUS OFFICIAL RACE: Mikey brings out the yellow
16) Something to do with potato salad and/or sugar free gummi bears
17) SPECIAL BONUS: One of us is actually at the track
18) Something not meant to catch fire does
19) We are reminded about how a track is famous for The Big One/Darlington Stripe/Eating tires/Fuel Mileage races.
20) "Because #3 car"
21) Race is boring... what are you drinking?
22) "Lord baby Jesus, smite Logano's engine!"
23) Somebody asking why they don't run in the rain followed by a quick explaination why its not a good idea
24) Idol collateral damage warning
25) DanZero's commercial/side-by-side recap from last week and running throughout the thread
26)  DamnitLarson!

Also, Carl has left Roush but can't say who his new team is.. Trevor Bayne is replacing him.

This should end well...

The Bestest: So is JGR the prevailing theory on where Carl is headed?

That's been the theory. Fourth team for Carl, then Home Depot was rumored to be interested until they killed their sponsor deal altogether. M&Ms was mentioned to move to Carl's car (with Monster sponsoring Kyle) but there was question over whether Carl would want to be sponsored by a candy company.

Marty Smith tweets that Jamie Allison of Ford has issued a "thanks, Carl, goodbye" statement, so they're assuming he won't be in a Ford in 2015.

Not sure how I feel about a fourth team distracting Kenseth and the #20 crew.

Yesterday in turn 3 it was termites. Today in turn 2 we have a banquet of gnats, sweat bees, and the Minnesota State Bird. The tearoffs will get a workout.

We've already done the ritual sacrifice of a photo of a jet dryer to keep the rain at bay and bring luck to JPM. I have a Buddha in my left pocket and a baby Jesus in a manger in my right. Let's see how this goes...

Mztlplx: Cole Whitt?

I was about to comment that Whitt is actually BKR's merely mediocre driver (as opposed to RyTru who is a terrible driver, and A-Bow who is both bad AND cursed), but after Whitt flipped Kyle a couple of weeks ago (after the big one was pretty much already over), yeah.. the similarities are there.

He'd better win a bunch of races quickly, his career won't be very long.

Trevor must be what, 25 now?

It still blows my mind that this kid won the Daytona 500 for the Wood Brothers a few years ago, and never managed to get any traction from it. Though he's also entrenched with Roush, who has noted sponsor problems over the last ten years, so that could be as much to blame.

I'm just still laughing at the whining that Nico Rosberg did at the Hungarian GP when Lewis Hamilton wouldn't slow down and let Rosberg by him when Nico wanted Hamilton to. I'd like to see Rosberg try that with a NASCAR team.

HWSNBN has said open wheel cars shouldn't run on ovals, so I don't see any chance of that happening, thankfully.
