Pretty sure even House Republicans have stopped caring what House Republicans think by now.

I'd say f*ck what the Republican perpetual negativists say, but they've obviously never had a thought in their lives

This goes for ALL presidents.

ALL of them.

House Republicans criticize Obama for existing.

Dear Maureen Groppe, instead of reporting the opinions of critics, why not report on what happened? You know, that the US embassy was safely evacuated.

fta All embassy personnel were evacuated under cover of American warplanes and spy aircraft as security deteriorated in the capital of Tripoli.

There you go! That's a good first sentence. Now, see if you can build on that and write an article that informs your readers about important events. You know, like reporters do.

Except that until recently, "People" didn't usually mean "Every last elected member of the opposing party, every single time he opens his mouth, with a degree of predictability that's never seen outside of astronomical phenomenon like sunrises and tides"

Everyone got out safe?

There you go. Now let's learn how this evacuation cost more than eleventy billion dollars, and how that money would have better spent on tax cuts to businesses that plan on offshoring their jobs and infrastructure.

This just in: the Republican Party is insane.  They have become the embodiment of the Orwellian concept of doublethink.  Many of them fit the clinical definition of sociopaths, and most of the rest are just gutless cowards who follow the herd.

As always, if Obama said "My fellow Americans, I firmly believe that you should NOT use a ball-peen to hammer hot roofing nails up your urethra," you'd hear bloodcurdling screams from the parking lot of every Home Depot.

I had someone admit fully the other day they only complained about Obama constantly because they were butthurt about getting mocked for supporting Dubya reflexively for eight years.

Yeah, but those screams would only be the result of the GOP finally getting TOUGH ON IMMIGRATION.

Oh, to be sure, the GOP has taken it to a new plateau.

But saying someone is criticizing the president for whatever is like saying that water is wet, or the sky is blue.

These days, though, the water has been replaced with more watery water and the sky has an unreal electric neon blue hue to it that is somehow all shades of blue simultaneously.

2014-07-27 12:39:28 AM
Does anyone need reminding that the House Republican Caucus was unable to pass any, ANY resolution on Libya itself? Boehner could neither authorize military force in Libya nor restrict any combat funds for Libya. Think about that. They couldn't get the votes for YES and they couldn't get the votes for NO. They literally cannot agree among themselves that the sky is blue and water is wet. The House has no place criticizing the Executive on ANY issue if it literally cannot/willnot itself make a decision on that issue. They tried to bring a bill again in August of 2011 and nothing was heard again.

It's almost like they don't realize that politics and policy have real consequences for people.  It's all a "I hate your guy because he's not my guy" mentality.

WTF?  At least people criticized Bush on actual POLICY issues, not because he was a republican.

Shostie: But saying someone is criticizing the president for whatever

Yes, but usually that person has an actual position of their own. That's why we're all still waiting for the "Republican Alternative to Obamacare" to be offered. Any day now, I'm sure.

2014-07-27 12:58:56 AM
No, namatad, I didn't. I voted for Bush twice. Stupid. But I can at least admit it. See, my biggest falling out from the Republican party was Medicare part D. I was a young and naive libertarian type person, and I saw the unfunded mandate that was a huge giveaway to corporate interests and an attempt to buy the senior vote in '04, combined with the shenanigans they pulled in the house to get it passed. Wow.Anyway, I protested that loudly based on those facts and figured my fellow conservative brethren would join me in rebuke.Nope. I got called a traitor and a RINO. They didn't give a damn except about whose team who was on.

2014-07-27 04:31:50 AM
And Bush got dozens of diplomats killed and no one complained then either.

So.. we get it, he's black.

They were mocked and W was mocked, They don't understand why, they just know it happened.

then the dems took power.

....so it stands to reason if they mock absolutely everything the left does, even if they agree with it, they too will regain power.

Nobody wanted to affirmatively step in and aggressively support the rebels. (I was among them, and still am)
Nobody wanted to support Qaddafi.
Nobody wanted to strongly support NATO when the rebels appealed to France for aid.
Nobody wanted to increase US military presence in the region.
Nobody wanted to do ANYTHING except attack Obama for his position that the US should do nothing but be willing to support our NATO allies in whatever they chose to do.

So when the House Intelligence Committee and their lackeys say something like this: "Our diplomatic absence will make the hard task of achieving political stability in Libya even harder," Royce said. "When security conditions permit the return of our diplomats, the administration must give them a new charge to help end the fighting and move Libya forward."

It is complete and utter bullshiat, and should be recognized as such. They were unwilling to allow Obama to step in with full military force (even had that been an option), certainly nobody wanted to support a dictator we BOMBED in 1986; and even our limited air support of NATO intervention got nothing but screams of how Obama had overstepped his authority. So  now their screams of "We have to do something to achieve stability in Libya!" reeks of hypocrisy and idiocy.

The only way to have done that might have been to have given 100% support to the rebels three years ago when they first asked for help--if they would have accepted it, which they might not have. They didn't ask for it, they approached France, not the US. And they don't seem anxious for US aid now. But for the American right to piously declaim that America needs to step in NOW, three years after it might have helped, is just b/s grandstanding and blatant opportunism. You can almost hear the GOP leaders cackling in their smoke-filled rooms, rubbing their hands with glee at the way the situation has deteriorated so they can blame something ELSE on Obama after their obstructionism caused this mess in the first place.

Because it's not their job to fix problems.  Many republicans were elected on the premise that government is incapable of fixing problems.  So...Mission Accomplished.

In truth, what is happening now is what should have happened decades if not a century ago. A good analogy would be a hockey game where they let the parties involved fight it out and get it out of their system. The reasoning (and rightfully so) is that if the referees stop the fighting from happening\break them up right away, tension as well as anger will build and a more dangerous revenge sought using the sticks, skate blades as weapons, and/or blind sided cheap shots.

Well all this sticking in of dictators to force "peace and stability" and other means cast upon the region to contain the various factions/tribes/ethnicities/religions/etc, has brought a tentative stability but at what cost? The second the factions get one micro-gram of freedom their first instinct is to lash out against each other in extreme fashion.

I guess that is why the critics are just that critics. Because what would they do differently?

"Our Libya mission is floundering, and what was a success three years ago is no longer a success," O'Hanlon said. "Perhaps it can be reclaimed, but only with a concerted and much stronger effort, including a more robust and ambitious training program for the Libyan army and police."

More and better training for the Libyan Army & Police. OK. You mean the same strategy implemented in Vietnam and more recently in Iraq? Who will be in charge of these new recruits? Can you guarantee they wont run at the first sight of combat with the militia groups?

Guess what? just like everywhere else you would have to pick the winner and then award them with their own American trained militia. The people should truly rally in support of that guy, unlike every other time(sarcasm). It will require a heavy U.S. combat presence to force an uneasy "peace" while militants will be taking pot shots at American troops as well as their traditional faction rivalries. The attempted picking of the "winners" and placing them in charge doesn't make the U.S. look like the "good guys" either. It is kind of what has made them "hate" the U.S. and not our "freedoms".

So I don't know if this is intentional or what, but as sad as the human toll is, the best thing is probably to allow the factions of the region to fight it out, get it out of their system, form real nations along traditional tribal boundaries, and deal with the winners.

Besides as long as they are busy hating and killing each other, they don't have as much time to hate and kill us.
It seems the GOP's stance on foreign policy, despite not outright admitting it, is still the "Bush Doctrine". Go into a country all guns blazing, blow shiat up, and nation build; all at the expense of the U.S. tax payer and whether the nation in question wants it.
