Meh, we're already in the middle of a mass extinction.

Unless we go extinct, then the animals we have domesticated may also go extinct.  Not all of them, obviously.  Horses would probably be okay.  And goat.  But sheep are pretty farked.

In some places the sheep are already fake farked.

I'm pretty sure most domesticated animals would get back to their feral forms within a few generations.

WHEN we go extinct. We will. Sooner or later all species go extinct.

WHEN we go extinct, some domesticated species will fail, some will recover, some will thrive. Dogs and Cats? no problem. 10,000 years after we are gone, every niche that we destroyed would have been refilled again, if not sooner.

That we hasten the demise of some is sad, but, it is not the end of the world.

/the idea that we could actually even come close to causing a GREAT extinction event? LOL It's the NEXT big bugaboo.

Hopefully we can find a way to mass produce food without having to grow animals up. I would eat a steak or chicken meat grown in a vat. We don't have to wait on it to grow and it will only be muscle and fat tissue. Nobody can get mad and claim it's abusive to animals if no actual animals are involved. Cows can't live on their own so there probably won't be any of them around if we don't raise them for beef anymore. I'm sure we can make a mild substitute that will be nearly identical to real cows milk so there won't be a need for dairy cattle either. The kind of fowl that are grown and that most people eat aren't the kind that can live by themselves in the wild either. So the only place to see all of the animals we used to eat will probably be in a zoo or photos and video of them before they went extinct.

There really isn't anything that's actually possible for the world to do to stop or even slow down global climate change significantly. The big huge rock is already rolling downhill and we don't have anything big enough to push in front of it to stop it. The world map is going to change a lot and there will be less land for people to live and the areas that are producing most of our food won't be able to grow those crops anymore due to the climate change. I'm interested in seeing how many cities/countries try and stop the ocean from pushing them out of areas by making huge walls and using pumps to keep the bowl they live in empty. Imagine New Orleans or the Netherlands, except these places are already built up in huge cities on the ocean front.

It's amazing that people are still fighting the science that has shown climate change is real and it's our fault. Do they really believe it's all made up or are they just so invested in their political mindset or just plain too proud to admit they are wrong. Eventually they are going to have to change their position. You can only argue against scientific evidence so long before enough people think you are simple minded fool and you get pushed out of the public eye.

I agree with namatad that eventually we will end up extinct as well. The only chance we really have is to get off of earth. Once we are able moving out of the solar system and out into the galaxy is the only way to ensure we don't end up extinct. A star that got thrown out of its place and is flying through our galaxy at a very high speed could cause serious problems if it got close enough to our solar system. A planet that got knocked out of it's orbit and is just zooming through the galaxy could cause chaos in the solar system. There are a lot of things that could destroy life on our planet and in our solar system. If we get spread out through the galaxy we stand a pretty good chance of lasting a very long time. Sitting on a planet, fighting wars that mean jack shiat is a sure fire way to make sure we don't make it another 1000 years. If the space program had continued to be funded like it was in the mid to late 60's we would already have bases on the moon and probably Mars. Just look at how much technology made it from NASA to our homes and ended up having a lot of commercial uses. If they don't have the money to do anything really important in space we are screwed. There isn't enough room on this planet and it's way too easy for us to end up killing every single person and most other species on the planet. Nuclear war, biological warfare, an epidemic could spread pretty quickly since we fly all over the planet every day.

Maybe one day in the future we can bring back most of the species that went extinct because of humans.

Here's a radical idea: stop making babies. Cut the human population in half and give the Earth a chance to recover.

Or an even better idea.  Start eating babies.  Swift was ahead of his time.
