(CBC)   The upside to last winter's freezing polar vortex? Really, really good North American wine. "It's a much smaller crop of grapes this year, but they are of exceptional quality"   (cbc.ca) divider line 17

The real news......wines from Canada? I've bought Israeli, South African, Argentine wine. But never even ever seen Canadian wine for sale.

Actually, I've had quite a bit of Canadian wine and have been rarely disappointed. But the headline smacks of AW to get sales for what they were able to pull off....

Oh, see you're from SF- heh, most of the wine around these parts gets sold here. Shorter season, high demand, little reason to distribute to the coasts. You may be surprised how much flyovers do well while ignoring the fraudulent hype created by California growers. Now avocados and olives/oil, send me more!

Yeah. fark you. There's less of it, so you want to sell it for more even if it's shiat.

The grapes are better because air nowadays has more CO2.  I've heard for years that we'd only get Earth-shattering horrible consequences from AGW?  Better wine sounds like a good thing, no?

Or basically here's a way to jack up prices to make up for loss of grapes and make you feel better about it.

Depends where you're at.  California grapes usually need some cool weather to keep the acidity up.  Here in Minnesota, I'm not excited.  My little vineyard (7 vines) is probably going to see acidity through the roof, and that's on top of a reduced harvest.  I'll know for sure in about 6 weeks.  Unless we get a heat wave in August, I'll probably have to add potassium bicarbonate to the must.  The 2012 harvest was fantastic.

You can't fool me. It's still probably bitter as all hell.

Franzia wines come from South America. In a box. With a convenient enema tip complete with a flow regulator.

And I much prefer Sobieski Vodka, made in Poland from 100% Dankowski Rye.

So this thread is not relevant to my interests.
