Hang on a second, when the HELL did Buzzfeed start giving a warm rat-fart about journalistic integrity?

2014-07-26 02:13:51 PM
Johnson lifted work from multiple sources, including Yahoo! Answers, Wikipedia and the New York Times.

One of these things is not like the others...

No shiat.  Yahoo! Answers has some great material.

Wait, was the story true?

Good.

For a site which consists of nothing but copyright infringement ("click here to see the 10 stupidest images we found on and copied from reddit today"), that's kinda cute.

Without Yahoo! Answers, how would I ever know how to get my parakeet to eat my diarrhea? How would I know how babby is formed? How girl get pragnet? What percentage of water is celery?

Truly, a great resource

Exactly!
I'm surprised it's not their modus operandi.

They do have actual articles there. But yeah, mostly it's just an aggregate of mindless crap...

You won't believe what happened to this Buzzfeed editor!

Buzzfeed doesn't do those "here's one weird superfruit to make you lose weight" bs ads.

"Fifteen Disney Princesses who are just having a day" is more their wheelhouse

I can't believe anyone takes Buzzfeed seriously as an original news source. To me it's like a combination of Fark and tumblr. All the news stories are links only unlike Fark, Buzzfeed copies almost the entire content of the link and slaps on an "According to (fill in news source)" before pasting the article and passes that off as original Buzzfeed content. Forget about how none of the pictures and gifs are original content but are usually stolen from other sources, mostly reddit and tumblr. There's nothing original on that site. Why would anyone be shocked at plagiarism?

Smith said in the email that he, along with Buzzfeed deputy editor-in-chief Shani Hilton and Buzzfeed political editor Katherine Miller, pored over "about 500 posts" of Johnson.
"In them, we found 40 instances of sentences or phrases copied, word for word, from other sites, many of them inappropriate sources in the first place,"

40/500?
ok i get it.
they fired him for being lazy.
that should have been at least 400/500.

Yes. It means that he just made everything up for over 90% of his stories instead of putting in the effort to track down the best content available on the web.

As opposed to the other 99% of Buzzfeed that is doing the investigative legwork to really find those original fourteen dogs who don't know how to dog.

reflection of an unserious attitude to our work that is wildly out of line with both our standards and our ambition.

Oh wait, you're serious, let me laugh even harder.  Buzzfeed has all the standards and integrity of a dumpster fire. It makes 4chan look good by comparison.

This.

Buzzfeed is nothing but a rehashing of crap they found elsewhere on the net, and they fire a guy over a few copied lines of text?
