Warchild: The wacky mayor of Quahog?

Is he really? I still think of him when I see "batman", MF I LOVED that show.

So Batman will vanquish Superman via a two-pronged attack of Surfing Contest and Dance-Off?

Also, those of us who enjoyed the quite good Daredevil and are willing to wait and see on Affleck.  Then again, Affleck was never the issue; the issue was Zack Snyder, who's at this point made exactly two somewhat decent movies (Watchmen and the Dawn of the Dead remake) and then made a seriously terrible superhero movie in Man of Steel.

And Adam West knows firsthand what makes an awful Batman.

I will concede that Adam West was a faithful adaptation of the comic book Batman of his time.

Problem is, that version of Batman sucked. F*cking ACA made comics boring.

Also, Adam West Batman trifecta in play.

Nah, he was the best Batman.  Everyone else has been the dick Batman.

Side note: the episode of Motor City Masters where they did Hotwheel cars, one looked perfect if they were to bring back Adam West's Batman.

2014-07-26 10:51:43 AM
That's because Adam West seems like a nice guy, he would never say anything cruel or malice.

Frankly, I'd be more impressed if it was Christian Bale saying Ben Affleck will make a good Batman, seeing is the Batman/Superman movie will probably have a similar dark tone as the Christopher Nolan trilogy.

How dark can it be though, with all the goofy characters they're adding?

Affleck will do fine. The movie he's put in will probably not be to my tastes, but Affleck will do as good a job as possible with whatever the script and director want him to do.

I thought it was generally accepted that Affleck works best BEHIND the camera.

2014-07-26 11:50:22 AM
He would be a better Batman than Matt Damon would.
But not better than anyone else. Maybe a bit better than that Screech out of Saved by the Bell, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Old school Batman tricfecta in play.

He was great in Argo and The Town. I think he will be a fine Batman. He wears the cowl better than Christian Bale already, can do better than that digitally altered gravel voice - the only thing really is if he can pull off the serious playboy-ness of Bruce Wayne.

2014-07-26 12:02:32 PM
I think he will be fine.  Did anyone think Micheal Keaton would be a good Batman, and he was fine as well.

For that matter, did anyone think Heath Ledger would be a good Joker?   As far as I am concerned, there is a two way tie for  the best acting performance in any move ever, Ledger's Joker and Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday.

Give the guy a chance.

He would have been a better choice for the Nolan Batman.

I got an autographed 8x10 black and white glossy of Batman and Robin signed by Adam West back in 1967 for 3 cereal box tops plus $1.95 shipping and handling.

Truly awesome.

Mugato: Even as a kid, i never understood the Adam West Batman. Was it a comedy, or a parody? Was everyone just high? That I would understand.

It was both.  It was TV entertainment. It also gave some pretty decent entertainers (Burgess Meredith, Frank Gorshin, Eartha Kitt, et al) some amount of exposure, even if it was pretty silly.  To get upset over it would be like thinking that "Get Smart" somehow degraded the whole "Spy" genre, when in actuality there were as many people that enjoyed that as much as the other "real" franchises....

It's OK.  Back then I didn't know about gay people either, I just laid back and enjoyed it.

Well that was a straight up comedy with a laugh track. It wasn't ambiguous what it was. I'm not sure if the movie was a comedy though, it definitely wasn't funny.

I cannot separate the whiny, mopey characters Affleck has played from the ones that aren't written that way. So I am having a very hard time imagining him as Batman because everytime I try to picture it, I want to slap Benman and tell him to stfu.

Also, look up definition and origins of "camp", which was a big deal in the '60s, not so much now with everything "out"  and beatified, rather than sub rosa and encoded.

What makes me respect The Town even more is that the source material was written by Chuck Hogan, who seems to have been responsible for all the parts that suck on The Strain. To have turned Hogan's writing into compelling cinema is likely a huge accomplishment.
