Love a good beer snob thread.  So many recommendations......so little time.

Automatically disqualified from having any merit with the first pick listed being an IPA.

My craft brew of choice comes from a little place called Plank Road. You've probably never heard of it.

So, this guy loves IPAs and hoppy beers and thinks that he knows what's best...good for him.  Now I know what he likes and am free to ignore him.  IPAs are the only beers that I'll simply pass over unless there's nothing else to drink.

"EWAN [capitalization sic] Porter is the sort of guy you'd really like to have a beer with."

Uh, no. Sounds boring and insufferable.

why yes, I would like some beer with my hops.

I don't mind bitterness (I love me some stouts) but I really dislike the IPA aftertaste.

UGH!  Please, can we call a moratorium on the hops arms race?

Attention brewers:  Your product shouldn't taste better when you're puking.

Sorry, but this Australian dude's "worldwide" search includes token beers from America and Europe, and then three from Austrailia and NZ.

Too. Much. Hops.

1. 7.5% ABV
2. 8.5% ABV
3. 8.5% ABV
4. 8% ABV
5. 6% ABV

Yeah, what you want son is to drink hard liquor.

Woops, its two from Eur, 2 from Aus/NZ and one US.

Not a big hops fan here though, so eh anyway.

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: Too. Much. Hops.

THIS

I'm a big IPA fan, and I like super hoppy beers at least 50%, but a lot of that has to due with living in the South, it being inescapably hot, and wanting something refreshing (and cheap) rather than necessarily going for a better taste profile.

Hops, more hops, and a twist of citrus is great to cool you down and feel refreshed when your hot, but ideally I'd rather reach for a Three Philosophers, a Samiclaus, or maybe someones attempt at schwazrbier , sit back and enjoy not sweating through my clothes.

Is this the thread where the only group of people more annoying than beer snobs themselves - beer snobs that hate specific styles and just have to tell you! - reiterate their very interesting/unique opinions concerning other people liking things that they don't like?

Because we already had that thread a few days ago, and it was stupid then, too.

/don't like hops? don't drink IPAs and STFU
//butthurt about this post? it's not my fault your palate is unrefined. Maybe try pairing it with overdone steak, Kraft mac'n cheese and a Capri-Sun juicebox, you insufferable whiner.

I think if you dropped the first and last words of your username then it'd be more appropriate based on your attitude.

Good choice on #1- I know it's fashionable to hate on IPAs, but Dogfish Head makes some good ones, even if stuff like the 120 is too far gone even for me.

If you're an IPA fan, check out this one.  The local pub had it on tap and it was excellent- a really nice citrus flavor, almost grapefruity.

I have a different palate than this guy.  My list would probably be populated with Belgian bottle-conditioned beers and Porters.

As mentioned earlier, quite a coincidence that an Aussie would pick an Oz beer and a Kiwi beer in their top 5. While the Oz beer scene has improved quite a bit in the last 5 years, they are still far, far behind the US. Almost any good beer made in Australia can be found cheaper and better in the States.

Pretty much anything from these guys is fantastic.  But this is the standout, IMHO.

I like a good Rauchbier, but only if the smoke taste is subtle, or at least not dominant.  Sadly, I think the style is going in the same "EXTREEM!!1!" direction as hoppy IPAs and AIPAs; I've had a few recently that tasted like I was drinking a smouldering campfire.

Oh and why is this confined to the business tab? It would fit better in the main tab, or even the politics tab.

the only reason they were hopped up in the past was to allow them to survive the long ocean voyages to overseas destinations.   bitter is not always best.

I know shandies are non grata around here, but I recommend this for a quick slake on a hot day. Have one, and move on:

I pine for a now no longer made brew called Pete's Wicked Winter Brew. Though Pete's is still in business they no longer make it. It was a dark ale with an undertone of raspberry and nutmeg. Quit making it in 2004.
