So much win in this article.

FTA: Clawson referred to Biswal and Kumar as members of the Indian government throughout the entire meeting. No one corrected him.  ...Kumar smiled at that one, while Biswal tried to break the awkward silence: "I think your question is to the Indian government. We certainly share your sentiment, and we certainly will advocate that on behalf of the U.S."

My favorite part FTA: Instead of paying attention when the two were introduced (Biswal works for the State Department and Kumar works in Commerce), or checking the cheat sheet on his table which listed everyone in the meeting, he just told them, "I love your country."

Ah, Curt Clawson, the guy who emerged the king of the mudpile in one of the dirtiest congressional races in recent history to replace ex-newscaster (and now I suppose ex-congressman) Trey Radel after he was caught buying cocaine from an undercover fed in DC.

Seriously, it was a face-palmy race from the start, with all of the GOP candidates doing their best to move to the right of one another and calling the others out as closet liberals.

"Vergüenza ajena" is the term that is used in Spanish for this kind of stuff. There still isn't a good term for it in English. You feel the embarrassment, but you didn't even commit the act.

Did Biswal and Kumar go to White Castle afterwards?

I did not know the history behind this guy... but I was wondering what made the Florida Tag's stock split a couple years ago.

Yeah, sure two indian "government workers" take your tax money and probably send 50% straight out of our economy to family overseas, and you want a representative to  openly proclaim that in a public meeting?

Perhaps it's you all that need some perspective. I think he handled that well.

But shouldn't we feel awful that this is the case. Guy can't be bothered to pay attention or read his sheet or even know what kind of meeting he's in, patronizing people from his own country because he assumed due to name and skin tone, were from another country and we should be happy because he wasn't trying to be explicitly racist?

Literal translation would be "alien embarrassment." You feel it, but you have nothing to do with it. "Ajeno" means "alien," or "far-away," or "unknown."

Hey, it's a lot better than, "Some of my best friends are untouchable."
