No. Just make one more movie to make up for the last one and wrap everything up.

Reboot or continuation?

Reboot can go fark itself. Continuation? Okay.

Or

Mugato:  Just make one more movie to make up for the last one and wrap everything up.

/oh, and bring back agent T-1000.

I tuned out before giving Agent T-1000 a chance. I figured it was a jump the shark point.

Season 8 was good, season 9 was bad. S9 was about some super soldier program, and had a new chick take over for Gillian Anderson.

The best moments in S9 were the final episode, the Lone Gunmen resolution, and the couple of episodes that dug into Agent T-1000 and his past.

You do know that they faked the deaths of the Lone Gunmen, who are being confined in a secret medical facility to figure out why that lethal disease they caught hasn't killed them yet?

Oh, and will they farking explain all the weird shiat with a cohesive storyline, or just pull more shiat out their ass toss it on the screen to make up for the plot?

Duchoveny was a shiathead for leaving. He left a hit show so he could go back to his softcore premium cable roots. We don't need a reboot though, we've had a decade of Supernatural.

The show would be about 5 minutes long.

"Well Mulder, over 60% of the world is walking around with a camera on them, and we have seen no pictures of ghosts, aliens, bigfeet, chingas, chupacabras, werewolves, and so on. Let it go."

"No Scully, the cell phones all have filters that prevent the cameras from seeing them!!! DAMN IS SCULLY; JUST RUN THE TESTS!"

*Camera pans out, Scully is visiting Mulder in the looney bin*

Slight (major?) threadjack.

Is there any hope that The Leftovers, a Damon Lindelof creation won't end up farking a chicken just like so many other Lindelof projects?  The Leftovers seems to be doing well, but, ... Lindelof.

That said, I love the X Files and would love to see it continued, if for no other reason than I haven't seen Gillian Anderson do anything decent recently. Crisis was total crap. Her British detective thingy was pretty terrible too.

'cause it worked great for Team Knight Rider, and Team Airwolf.

I wonder which scenes they're re-use...

To elaborate, things were fine until Chris Carter decided bees pollinate corn, which was moronic, but he managed to keep the show lurching along until after the first movie. Mimi Rogers showing up was the beginning of the end, Duchovny forcing production to move to LA had it teetering on the precipice, and soon after it became obvious that Carter had run out of plots to pull out of his ass, and the whole thing collapsed. I never made it to Agent T1000.

New agents, Anderson and/or Duchovny guest appearances. as before believer vs skeptic, running conspiracy plot.

I'd watch it.

Meh. Just like Supernatural works, and CSI/NCIS/etc. work, it could be worked around without going batshiat crazy.

Hell, most of the supernatural/alien stuff (I'm sorry, this is pure memory from when the show actually aired live..) was sort of on the downlow anyway, wasn't it? Like, even if people had had cameras, it was typically in seclusion, and/or had already eaten them, etc.  It wasn't like people didn't have cameras and phones ot call the press back then.

Honestly, my favorite genre of book is urban fantasy, and that's pretty close to what X-files was; a mystery with continuing story arc, set in modern day, dealing with supernatural crap.

I just hope (and know they won't) that they avoid making one of the main characters 'the chosen one' who has super special powers and shiat.  Just two humans armed with wits vs. aliens and supernatural stuff is better than yet another infinite variation of 'chosen one gets chosen'.

I tuned out just before they started killing off all of the fun side characters, i.e. painting themselves into a corner.  While the weirdness was something that kept me interested in the show at first, what kept me coming back were the guest starts and tertiary characters.  Killing off all of them just to make things bleak really didn't make me want to keep watching.

On the other hand, the big death in the Season Finale is hands down the most satisfying death I've ever witnessed, happening to someone who really deserves it in a way that leaves absolutely no ambiguity about their eventual demise.

So, will someone summarize the article?  The site hijacked my tablet to force me to use its stupid "swipe-to-scroll" format, at which point I somehow managed to "swipe" my way past the relevant articles into random ones I didn't care about and then after that some stupid ad I couldn't get rid of without killing the tab.

Whoever came up with "Onswipe" ... well, if you say it right it almost sounds like "asswipe," so there's that.  Makes sense.

In fairness, Carter wanted to end the show with the first movie and then do several movies. But Fox needed the show in its thin lineup.

And it's pretty clear that the movie was written this way -- the movie does close out a long running narrative arc of the show.

No no no no no no.

The X-Files holds a special place in my heart. Don't you dare reboot it you bastards. Started when I was 10, watched it religiously. Probably why Urban Fantasy and Horror is my jam.

Aw, who am I kidding. This is Fox. They'll cancel it after a few episodes.

The best one in the last season was the one with the Brady Bunch house, featuring Michael Emerson from Lost, written and directed by Vince Gilligan.

That episode is clearly the director saying farewell to the audience, for the audience to "let the show go".

Although it cheeses me that Mulder never go to prove any sort of weird stuff.

2014-07-26 12:18:47 AM
My wife and I re-watched the series not long ago. My observation is that the show was at it's best when Mulder and Scully were background characters, and the show focused on the people dealing with weird shiat that week. I can't think of any other show that did the "main characters as background characters" angle, but it worked really well and allowed the story to unfold with Mulder and Scully having the same amount of information as the audience when walking into some tiny town and dealing with the local sheriff.

The show got bad when it became about Mulder and Scully more than anything else (I think there was a season 5 episode where Scully walked around in slow mo in a hospital that was the point of no return).

I loved the X-Files, but it's really better just to let it lie. It was great and an awesome part of 90's culture, but a reboot would end up being nothing more than CSI: Copypasta from /x/.

I've introduced my wife and kid to the show as well (we just watched "Dod Kalm") and it really does hold up. "Aubrey" scared the shiat out of all of us.

What also pretty amazing is when you go through the list of producers, directors, and writers who worked on the show and it's like an all-star team.

For the same reason they remade "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (and a brazillian other things): "To make it more accessible to a new generation."

Apparently, NetFlix is hard to access.

I've been asking the same thing (re: movies) for years. Anyone else remember when they use to spiff up prints of old films and release them to theatres for a week or two? Whatever became of that practice? Oh, yeah, I remember. Neflix, cable and studio bosses who wouldn't know quality art from a syphilitic cock attempting to justify their salaries.
