When visiting the Vatican, be sure to stop by Benedict's Buffet for lunch! All-you-can-eat wafers, and a complimentary sip of sacramental wine included!

i realize that the pope has a long way to go to address things like the pedophilia scandal, women priests, contraception, etc... but i've got to say that i like him a lot so far. certainly better than his predecessors.

The Vatican is a small place, as a sovereign nation that has to fit all of that history and bureaucracy into only forty-four acres.  As a result, all of the restaurants are small, and many have opted to change their names to reflect this.  The tiny McDonalds has a Little Mac, Big Kahuna Burger is just Kahuna Burger, and so on.  The name change is apparently popular with the locals, as the most popular place in the whole country is Bob's Little Boy.

/Yeah, too much work for that joke.

He's planning to chane Church law to drily be hammer on bishops who cover up abuse. They've already defrocked over 2,000 priests and he has made the pedophilia scandal a focus of his papacy. He really seems to get the damage the scandal has done in the eyes of the laity. They do have far to go, but he seems to be the man getting things on track. That and straightening out the Vatican finances are the two big things. Ordaining women and contraception will be long battles within the Church because those are matters of doctrine.

I believe I've said this before, but Pope Francis really, really wants to make me convert.  He is an awesome Pope.  Heck, he sat down to dinner with the common folk? He's basically got me sold.

/itching to convert to Catholicism now as half of my family was (they're all dead so I can't ask opinions) on the merits of the current Pope.

Organized religion is the most counterproductive force in the history of our species. But this guy is at least trying to focus on the best parts of it. Sorry, I grew up Southern Baptist. They have a really weird and twisted view of what it means to be a christian.

There's a cafeteria in the basement of the Vatican Museum. It's pretty good.

Be sure to visit the restrooms. There's a 1st century Roman statue in an alcove in the hallway. Many museums would kill to have that in their collection, but at the Vatican, it's just a thing in the hallway to the bathroom.
