"The city has certain values that I don't believe are in general agreement with having an atheist station, nor in general agreement with having a Nazi station or Ku Klux Klan station," Fouts said. "I cannot accept or will not allow a group that is disparaging of another group to have a station here."

Wow.  Big fan of the 1st Amendment on every level there, aren't you Mr. Mayor?

We need a hypocrisy tag.

If allowing atheists to set up a "Reason Station" is disparaging to other groups, perhaps that really isn't the fault of the atheists.

Christians never disparage any other groups, of course.

He is a mayor, most of them are corrupt nit wits who couldn't buy a higher office.

Mayor Fouts is merely protecting his citizenry, since we know that reason to Christians is like garlic to vampires.

How hard it is for these farktards to learn? Are they that stupid?  More importantly, how much does it have to cost taxpayers?

US conservative Christians would be some much easier to take if they didn't worship Satan.

Which is funny, considering the basic belief systems espoused by the KKK and Nazis were based in "Christian values".

First of all, from what I understand from theologians, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate disparagement, the group has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

Warren will lose this lawsuit, and Fouts will be reelected for standing up for Christian principles.

Soon to be a victim of the secular liberal homoagenda that wants to make him out to be intolerant. If they were really tolerant they'd accept his traditional views. He doesn't have to treat those kinds of mongrels civilly or equally, and attempts to acquire equality are an outright attack on Jesus.

"I love the First Amendment.  I believe in the First Amendment.  In fact, I will vigorously defend your right to talk, in any way you want, about your love for Jesus Christ.  If you want to say He's great, I support you.  If you want to say He's awesome, I will defend your right to say it.  And, if you say that Jesus kicks donkey - only you use that other word - well, sir, frankly I'll be a little offended, but I will still support your right to say it."

Also..

"...continuing saga by a group of people who, in my opinion, promote conflict rather than resolution and understanding."

Um, "understanding" is in direct conflict with religion... So, maybe that is why you think us atheists are always being confrontational.

From the lawsuit (link to pdf):
Defendants' decision to deny the reason station while allowing the prayer station caused Mr. Marshall to perceive that Warren favors and endorses traditional religious beliefs over atheistic beliefs. Defendants' decision made Mr. Marshall feel unwelcome at the Civic Center, an outsider in the community, a second-class citizen in Warren, and a disfavored member of a religious minority group.

But I have been reliably informed by the Fark Brain Trust that atheism is absolutely positively utterly now and forever NOT a religious group or a belief.

Some Christians literally can't grasp the concept of hypocrisy. When you start from a position that is conceited to the point of openly stating you already have all the answers and nobody else can possibly be right, certain parts of your brain atrophy.

He is exactly the sort of person that would be covered under my new "too farking stupid to live" constitutional amendment. Its' right for America and it's right for democracy. Don't side with the hippie libs and their "life liberty and pursuit of happiness" bullshiat. We could start ridding america of dumbasses right away.

Somehow I knew one day my hometown would end up on Fark.  Jim Fouts has really gone downhill since he became mayor.  He was a really standup guy when he was on the city council back when I was in school.  He was actually a high school teacher in our district, and a good one at that from what I'm told.  But when he got elected mayor, the power kind of went to his head, and now he goes around wearing an invisible tin pot and telling everyone what to do, even the ones he doesn't have power over.

There were also rumors of sexual favors between him (71) and his secretary (25), but I don't know if those were ever substantiated.  He's become very intolerant of other people's viewpoints as well.  The guy before him was an absolute snake in the grass as well.   Warren's politics have always been... interesting... to say the least.

2014-07-25 12:45:50 PM
Hmmm... Well if the mayor and the other believers actually believe what they claim to, why would a non-conforming viewpoint matter at all to them? Are they that fragile and on-the-fence about it?

Yes. Much like anti-gay marriage laws are the only thing standing between them and an all-you-can-eat dick buffet.

That's what Christian love is all about.  Of course, you wouldn't understand that, since you've admitted you're a filthy, sub-human atheist.

Oh, and in case you think this guy is some sort of fringe element who doesn't represent mainstream American thought, here's an excerpt from an interview with former President of the United States, George H. W. Bush:

Bush: No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.
Sherman (somewhat taken aback): Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church?
Bush: Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on atheists.
