That's because many families from Bolivia live in the community

Lived here 47 years. never met one Bolivian.
However, we're overrun with Koreans, people from Central America and Indians (red dot kind, not feather kind).

Wasn't Reston the site of an Ebola outbreak that the Reston Ebola strain is named after?

I like how the entire article manages to avoid describing even one symptom of this terrible disease that the illegals have brought to our great nation.

Wet backs and cantaloupitis of the calves, according to some.

Probably didn't count since it only killed monkeys.

The only Bolivian family I know (close friend from college years ago) lives in DC metro area, so right ballpark (currently southern MD).

CSB: About 10 years ago she wrote to her grandmother back in Bolivia, mentioned that she had a headache.  A week or so later she gets a package in the mail, stuffed with Coca leaves.

Probably because it may take years to become symptomatic:

(Some will develop heart disease. The first signs are usually problems with the heart's rhythm. Others can develop a severe form of the parasitic infection, which causes inflammation of the brain, says Sue Montgomery with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"Sometimes the first indication of Chagas disease can be a stroke or sudden collapse or sudden death. It is a stealth disease in some ways because people are infected, not knowing they're infected, and years later they can have problems with their heart," she says.)

Right out of the article.  Admittedly there is a lot more to Chagas. Real fun disease...great at parties, funerals, etc.

I like how a jackhole such as yourself automatically assumes that because people are from South America, they are here illegally.

That's quite a symptom.

Oh great, another "Dirty immigrants are bringing in exotic diseases" story, to add fuel to the recent claims that the border children are bringing in "TB, polio, and leprosy".

The US does not have the specific disease vector insects which are the only natural way to catch it, so while there may be South Americans in the US with Chagas they are a danger to no one but themselves.

2014-07-25 08:01:42 PM
It would be kind of cute if they actually gave it to you by kissing. But no, it's actually much worse than that.

I had never heard of this disease til this year. A guy I was dating and I donated blood. A couple weeks later he gets a letter from Red Cross saying his blood tested positive for chagas but it could be a false positive. They offer to do another test at no charge to him and have him answer some questions.

After googling it he decides to send his Mexican girlfriend (me) a text asking when the last time I was in Mexico. He was thinking I gave it to him. Uhh no my blood has come back clean every time I've donated.

He ended up being negative for it but he's forbidden from donating anymore. Just in case.

Dumbass.

Huh. I never had much luck with a parasite. Too slow to evolve before I could get it to spread worldwide.

Bolivian cooties.

Year before last I noticed an incredible increase in the number of assassin bugs around my house. I brought one in to feed to my preying mantis and after about a week I had half a dozen inside my house. Apparently they followed the other one or something. What the hell.

Haven't seen any this year though. Although tons of squash bugs which look almost identical to assassin bugs but they don't try to jab their proboscis in to the tweezers when you grab them.

2014-07-25 09:09:58 PM
Good luck, I was really cheering for them after their early 90's ebola outbreak didn't take off.

"This disease is not transmitted person-to-person or through casual contact. It's not easy to get this infection," Montgomery says.

And just to make sure that's not confusing, we'll call it the "kissing bug disease."

Infusions of contaminated blood can also spread the parasite. However in the United States, blood is screened for the disease eliminating the risk, she says.

Yup, no one has ever gotten a disease from a blood transfusion in this country.

FTA: "Chagas is common in poverty-stricken areas in Latin America and has moved north with those who have traveled or immigrated from there, Cohen says. The disease affects eight million people a year, according to the World Health Organization."

Thanks Obama!

It's been 22 years since I managed to escape from Herndon/Annandale. Almost all the best folks that I met up there were from some place else. Taken as a group the born and raised locals of NOVA were the most shallow, judgmental and whiniest folks I ever met.  Just awful bad terrible people. Ain't nothing to be proud of, being from there.

If the back is wet and the beans are jumping... Sort of like walks like a duck and sounds like a duck.

But regardless, they are disease infested animals which have only one proper way of being handled safely; fire up Ol Ashmaker.

Or let it fester till it can spread with the TB and measles and smallpox and leprosy. The cleansing could be beneficial.

I already addressed my original comment, but as of 9pm tonight they updated the story to include symptoms, so maybe someone at WTOP reads Fark. Or maybe everyone else noticed that a bullshiat alarm story didn't include any details about the disease it was alarming about.

How is it in humorless land? Is it fun to find offense about everything?

It is NOT the Bolivians. Northern VA is infested with disease carrying vermin known as politicians, lobbyists and civilian government employees.
