They have no address, so they can't be released, or some insane reasoning like that. At least they won't be homeless while awaiting trail for the next year, at which time they will get time served

You're talking about people with absolutely no roots whatsoever.  Tremendous flight risk.

/how desperate do you have to be before stealing a rental truck and living out of it even starts to look like a good idea?

How can a rental company not have GPS in every single asset? They put GPS on everything from pallets of goods, bicycles and pets these days.

Jesus people, if living in a stolen rental truck is on your list of housing options you might want to hold off on having those kids for a little while.

You do understand that they had the kids BEFORE they stole the truck, right?

Sometimes people think they have stable and secure lives, then bad shiat happens and it turns out they weren't so secure after all.

So confiscate any underage kids and let them disappear.  The rental company got their truck back.  Give it a wash and an oil change and put it back in the rotation.  Of course, it's not like they're going to be able to come up with a bond but, shiat, holding him without one is absurd.  The $10k bond on the woman may as well be eleventy bajillion dollars but at least it's an option if she's got family that wants to step up.

Nah, Penske. But I can't really complain as I've found some pretty nifty stuff in some of these trucks. We get a lot of stolen recoveries at my shop and... lets just say that we get some pretty nice stuff every once in a while. The tweaker vans and trucks tend to have some of the best stuff, believe it or not.

obamadidcoke: Oh my god this is so incredibly sad.

Indeed it is. There should be no reason for our fellow Americans to feel the need to make off with a rented vehicle with the hopes of making a home of it; certainly not with all of the empty houses out there awaiting occupancy. Unfortunately, for too many, that is the only option available.

I'm shocked there's no one in here blaming them for crashing the American economy and suggesting all the homeless be herded into a building and blown up.

Someone's going to think there are human beings on Fark.

My guess is that Darnell also has other outstanding warrants that he has ignored (up until now).

Except for the children the police took from them. I feel like they might want those back before leaving town.

I was in the market for a cheap light or medium commercial truck chassis to convert to a hauler for my racing addiction, and looked at a multitude of U-Haul units. The amount of butt stains was friggin' incredible. I mean, I fully understand that moving involves sweating, and I have often climbed into my own truck with a sweaty butt. But how the fark do you get mud butt stains on vinyl seats!?!?!?!?

The need to reapholster everything, plus the lack of diesel engines basically scuttled the U-Haul option. Ended up with an ex-USAF Ram 2500 flatbed, which kicks the ass off of a UHaul truck all day long.
