I think they'll blink on the Ex-Im Bank.  The other stuff, I don't know.  Only the Republicans would force a shutdown right before an election even though they last two killed their support.

I'm okay with the GOP destroying itself again right before a pivotal election.

Quite a pickle for the GOP.  What a shame for them that trying to keep their jobs prevents them from doing their jobs.

They might want to consider actually doing their jobs as means of keeping those jobs.  I know it sounds crazy - measuring an employee's performance in order to evaluate them - but it just might be wacky enough to work.

They just throw these ideas out there to see how their voting base reacts and feed them the right shiat until they get re-elected. They never actually do anything

Keep having that one scene from the bioweapon episode of Babylon 5 run though my head on every discussion of "we must be pure!"

And, to be fair, while the French have some very fine cheeses, some of the more mature varieties should
be covered under the Hague convention.

I was listening to NPR about Republican congressman being primaried no matter how conservative.  One challenger had a campaign ad that said "Congressman xxx has show a willingness to work with others."  This was a negative.  In the conservative mind it is better to do nothing while squawking about the  conservative agenda than to compromise and actually achieve part of the agenda.  Like all fanatical movements before purity is more important than ability.

Yeah, they don't have much time left to try and make Obama look like the worst President ever. Despite all their efforts, the economy is sort-of recovering, and some people are still liberals. Why, it's like they haven't even noticed that our President is a blah guy. So they're still desperate to land some real damage. Maybe one more shut-down will do it.......

Did you ever notice that the worst damage to Obama has been done by his own people?

I think we should get Morgan Freemen into the Senate just to have him filibuster stuff.

I'm hoping at this point for a shutdown. Our entire country is trickle-down at its finest, except it's not wealth... it's shiat. We're talking about some of the most basic things Congress could vote for to make sure we're funded enough right now, and they want to strap bombs to that idea. It'll be worse on the microscopic chance Republicans control the Senate. And I want everyone to see it, because it'll get enough people asking "What the fark is going on?" to make a difference.

2016. I've said it before and I'll say it again, always with a smile: it'll be a bloodbath. The shutdowns, the OBAMA BAD, the tea party wins in 2010... it all comes back around.

I'm not a huge fan of President Hillary, but I'm definitely on board compared to what could be.

I'm more worried about the Senate balancing or flipping this year. A government shutdown will look bad, but it isn't going to help get moderates and liberals to the polls.

2014-07-25 01:17:10 PM
Good.  fark the GOP.  It would be nice to see them deal with a 50 50 split in the senate, further strengthening the Biden so we can have a Biden/Warren ticket instead of all Hillary all the time.  Actually, Biden would be an excellent secretary of state.

I'm not really worried, because it would take a lot of fortunate circumstances for the GOP to walk away with the required seats, and the same people that were touting Romney's 2012 win are now touting the GOP's 2014 Senate takeover. There's little reason for me to believe that all of the things that need to happen for +7 GOP will happen, especially with how close some of the "gimme" races are (see also: McConnell).

Eric Cantor was primaried out. The coalition can't even keep its leaders from the fire. It'd be tragic if they weren't a plague on our country.

Among the most conservative of the conservatives, which is mostly old white people, they're mostly just pissed off that the world has passed them by, and most social norms and the greater zeitgeist are evidence whatever culture war they thought they were fighting has been lost. So, because, they're old and angry, they're more interested in watching the world burn than actually improving anything.

The fact that's the crowd a large handful of Republicans are actually trying to appease and throw red meat towards is fascinating.
