I'm excited for this, because it will give me a chance to dust off several elaborate rants about how, in this solar system with dozens of rocky, Earth-gravity planets (and their equally massive moons), the innermost and outermost worlds all have the same temperate climate and sunny days that are equally bright.

/my rants anticipate your invocation of the so-called and utterly non-canonical "Complete and Official Map of the Verse" and snort derisively at you

The company that is making this also made such hits as Kinderzoo, Fairy Maid, Dairy Queen Tycoon, and Witch's Workshop. What could go wrong?

I'm not going to remain optimistic about my odds now.

I assume that's so he has something to do after Wash gets killed off needlessly?  Maybe they'll retcon Serenity out completely...

FTFA: All of the original Firefly stars will reprise their characters for the online game!

So...this implies extensive voice acting, no?  Could be a good thing.  Could be a recipe for disaster.  Could be I'm just jumping to conclusions.

Why the fark wont the website work!  THAT isn't a good sign.  You can usually tell early on if a company is serous about a game by how put-together their promotional materials are.  A good site doesn't mean a good game, but if they CAN'T make a good site...don't hold your breath.

I do see this listed as Trending on Facebook right now.  Might have overloaded their servers.  But yeah, not a good sign at all.

I take it back...website is working, just incredibly slowly.

From their FAQ page: "When will the game be released?
The game is currently slated to be released in the summer of 2014."

Summer Glau doesn't cause shows to tank, she's just typecast into sci-fi shows, a genre where very few succeed. Put he in a CSI/NCIS spinoff or a quirky comedy about man hating female professionals in the City and she'll thrive.

All those planets and moons were terraformed. If you have the technology to terraform then you can tailor each one to suit its distance from the sun, so worlds further away get more greenhouse gasses so they retain heat better.

Now gravity, I'd have liked them to drop a mention that that varies from world to world.

It will more be single player episodic content with some multiplayer components. Essentially they realized that everyone will want to be the captain and if everyone is the captain it won't work. Instead it will be single player with "social" aspects.

And why, for the love of all that is holy, in a planetary system where fresh food is incredibly rare did people so much energy into interplanetary spacecraft and none into a few decent climate controlled hydroponics labs?

Defiance didn't have a lot, but they did a decent job of tying it to the story without making you play through the TV show.  What it did have, it actually did pretty well, but there was no depth because they were banking on the expansion packs buying them time to push content.

But it was definitely as MMO as anything out now.  The arkfalls were actually pretty entertaining.

The original series had all of what, thirteen episodes?  I think it is fair to say that not all the world-building points had been totally fleshed out yet.

One of the major themes of the show was that the core worlds were climated controlled utopias while the outer rim was full of badly/incompletely terraformed worlds. The outer rim worlds had to survive on whatever the core would dain to send them, which was far more likely to be basic foodstuffs than luxuries like strawberries.

Could also be almost all of the stuff like strawberries was shipped back to the core while the rim worlds got left with wheat and potatoes.

If I can easily grow strawberries in my garden then why couldn't anyone, even on the outer worlds, do the same?

The only logical, and probably quite likely, explanation is Blue Sun doing a Monsanto and the only seed available are sterile one-generation only so you have to go back every year and buy new seed from them. But it would only take one case of non sterile seeds to become available and they'd spread quickly. Monsanto can force you to buy their sterile seed because it works with their pesticide. You want to grow organic, you can use any seed.
