I really liked the 1st one and the 4th one was okay.

The second one, which I made the mistake of paying for, is a crime against cinema though. It's not a complete film. It's just a giant bunch of exposition for the third movie.

Johnny Depp needs to go back to the well after his last few movies.

Isn't there another Hunter S Thompson book they could adapt?

Or the Hell's Angels book. Well since Las Vegas and The Rum Diary (which I didn't even see) sort of bombed I guess he won't be revisiting HST. Bummer. More Pirates and  Tim Burton then.

Yep. They aren't particularly intellectual, but that's fine with me. Raw entertainment.

PotC4 pointed out that all you really needed was Depp and Rush, although they did force the mermaid/missionary romantic couple for old time's sake.  Still decent, but was pushing it.

If you don't know who Waltz is, you simply don't watch great movies.

Really?  Inglorious Basterds had a great idea, but was just long and boring.  I'd charge by the minute to sit through it again.  Django, on the other hand, was a lot of fun.

I haven't seen those two yet, but he made an interesting villain in the Green Hornet movie.  A villain with a bit of a midlife crisis.

They should do a death of piracy, where all the spooky elements come to an end and Jack Sparrow finally reaches his boring end as a dock hand.

The best parts were Waltz's, I have to say. That and the braukellar scene where Stiglitz loses it and stabs the Nazi in the nuts.

It's a good series, but it's no Cutthroat Island

I'm a fan of his. His delivery and cadence is fantastic and usually funny.

/Only seen him in two movies, both Tarantino. Still the best part of both of them.

Ghost Busters 3!!!

For me, Inglorious Basterds was a great movie because it had humorous points... But Christoph Waltz was chilling in his character. He killed that role.

Waltz was farking fantastic in The Zero Theorem. Worth a look if you haven't seen it yet...

Hee hee, I heard that if Orlando Bloom was forced to make another of these movies with Kiera Knightley, he'd shoot himself. Apparently she was the most boring, empty-headed girl he ever met.

i love the first pirates movie, it was funny and exciting with great characters and quotable dialogue, it was almost a perfect movie, really.  the second movie was one of the most idiotic and disastrously bad movies i've ever seen in a theater, it was so stupid it made me like the first movie less.  they took all the stuff i liked in the first movie and threw it in the garbage, and replaced it with contrived and unfunny nonsense.  having said that, i never saw part 3 or 4.  but having said that, if christoph waltz is in part 5 then i will watch it.

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: It's a good series, but it's no Cutthroat Island

i will argue the point that cutthroat island is almost as good as pirates of the caribbean as a full movie.  the only real difference is that geena davis was not as incredibly memorable a character as johnny depp was, and that's why cutthroat failed while pirates was a huge smash.  other than that the movies really are equally funny and entertaining, cutthroat just lacked a really great protagonist.

I just remember it being really long.

Yyyyeah. I don't know about that, it was pretty bad. And Mathew Modine couldn't carry an Afflack commercial, much less an action movie. Geena Davis however was great in The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Bad news, my ass. The 4th one was what the 2nd and 3rd should've been: a fun action-adventure film that is both episodic and features Orlando Jones in no way, shape, or form.

I am sure Cristoph Waltz will play the role with gusto. I'd netflix/rebox it.

which reminds me, has anyone seen Malkovich's new pirate show, made for television? any good? It seems a little funny to me.

This.

I would *love* to see Orlando Jones in a Pirates movie. He's been funny in everything I've ever seen him in.

(Bloom I could definitely give or take.)

i think the original trilogy is on par with the best trilogies out there.... I'm impressed how they tied together and concluded a bunch of crazy unrelated storylines that probably were never initially intended to be explored with any depth.

My local morning radio show is a PG13 version of the previous day's Fark headlines.....literally damn near every "funny" news article they have can be found on Fark's main page...  Makes it not funny because I read the actual story a day earlier.  A lot of times they rip off the submitter's headline for their jokes....lazy asses.
