Well each week we hear about more and more characters being added, obviously to ensure that Affleck gets minimal screen time.

I keed, I think Affleck will do fine.

2014-07-24 08:54:21 PM
He looks fine to me. I think people whining about Ben Affleck are just doing the same thing geeks do everytime someone they disapprove of gets cast as something they don't expect. That pretty boy Heath Ledger from Brokeback Mountain was met with wild applause when they announced him as Joker, wasn't he?

And there wasn't even an internet then, but you could still hear the wails around the world when Michael Keaton was chosen back in the day.

It's like these nerds think he'll be walking around with his mouth open like he's in Jersey Girl or something. Batman isn't exactly the most difficult role in the world.

normally, I loathe buzzfeed, but after Affleck's casting, they did a link of various peoples' responses to Ledger's casting, and it was exactly the same sort of vitriol we heard regarding Ben's casting.

The difference being that I don't think there will be any surprises with Affleck. He already played Daredevil, that's probably how he's going to do Batman. But who cares, the Batman as written in the films isn't that hard to do. He's not that interesting a character.

/Micheal Keaton ftw

Ben Affleck was the best live action Superman since Christopher Reeves.

We couldn't see enough of the suit to see if it had nipples and a codpiece.

Oh god just let it go. We need a war or some huge cultural epoch to get us all past the old. Batman, like every other "Comic Book Staple" that keeps getting dragged out needs to be put down and left to history to remember. Stop making movies that dumb people care about. They don't have much money so let WalMart take them and you can get all the rich smart people. Flash some lights... they'll love it.

Are they casting Jennifer Lopez as his love interest, I hope?  Those two had such chemistry in Jiggly.

She was in Jiggly for what, 5 minutes? 10 tops? You can't blame her for that movie.

A billion times this.

I think Ben will be the best Batman ever. If he is, I can always say I was right. If he wasn't, nobody will remember until the next certainly best ever/worst ever Batman.

Seems like a step in the wrong direction after the Nolan cowl. Eh, lowered expectations would only help after all the poorly-received casting choices.

Not trying to just hate, but this whole DC project, from having to reboot both Batman and Superman, not doing any setup movies with any other characters, and a very awkward title, it all just doesn't fill me with much confidence.

And just as a minor side note, for all the people who complained about the digital altering of Bale's voice, how is Affleck's overly-enunciated slight lisp going to be any better?

Do we really need set up movies for characters everyone has known since they were children?

2014-07-25 12:15:55 AM
So....they took the Adam West cowl, added some furrowed brow ridges, and painted it black?

They gave the cowl a scowl. A cowl scowl. So, yes. Yes it will be.

Looks good to me.  Even if this movie disappoints me it'll be one day, while DC TV continues to impress me every week (and soon even multiple times a week).  And at this point that's all I'm looking forward to.

Thank you.

Now imagine how much better "Man of Steel" could have been. Imagine we start the movie and  he's already just Supermanning around because we know who the fark Superman is. There. We got the origin story out of the way. Now we can actually concentrate on making the villain a credible threat.

Farking damn right he is, he could easily play a live action elderly Bruce Wayne if they ever did a live Batman Beyond movie.

Agreed. Skipping the whole Kevin Costner part would have improved the movie immensely. I am just about fed up with origin stories over and over.

"The credit card was addressed to 'Batman or Current Resident.' Would having a Bat Credit Card be admitting I'm Batman? I could just keep it with the suit, so I don't have to use the Wayne account because that would be hard to explain. God dammit, I just don't know!"

I think Marvel spoiled you. If this was happening 5-7 years ago, you'd think it was the MOST AMAZING THING EVER. But now wveryone thinks DC has to follow Marvel's blueprint to the letter.

Once upon a time, DC had a much better track record with movies than Marvel.

In fairness, he's supposedly playing an older "I'm too old for this shiat" retired Batman or something

I thought RR was great as GL...but they did the same mistake as FF:RotSS, no one gives a fark about a nebulous cloud monster as your big bad, and hector hammond was shiatty too.

Basically everything was fantastic until he returned to earth from Oa and the bit with the helicopter/carol.

The problem with that movie was not Ryan Reynolds.

I always felt that as far as origins go of already pretty well know heroes go, if they feel a NEED to introduce the origin with each new reboot, do it in the opening credits with a montage, the same way they did with Watchmen, and they weren't KNOWN heroes...
http://vimeo.com/38649608
Gave enough to start the story, needed SOME flashbacks to establish and flesh out the characters, but with characters like Batman and Supes, this is all you need, then get right to plot...

He looks like Batman. But when he opens his mouth, you're going to hear 'smarmy douchebag with limited range'.
