Ignorance, Booze, and over eating of course people in Louisiana are happy.

Ignorance is bliss.

2014-07-24 04:32:27 PM
Well, they do say ignorance is bliss.

2014-07-24 04:48:44 PM
I wasn't at the liberal convention where we voted that we hate happiness, but I guess I'll just go along with it.

Looks like a fast and loose definition of the word city going on here. The combined populations of the metro areas of those 6 Louisiana cities is less than 3 million.

2014-07-24 05:33:28 PM
Didn't somebody once say that ignorance is bliss?

2014-07-24 05:37:46 PM
I guess fat, drunk, and stupid is a fine way to go through life.

2014-07-24 05:54:45 PM
As a lifelong Louisiana resident, all I can say is that it's "meh" at best.

Shreveport-Bossier is #2?  How in the holy fark does Shreveport-Bossier even come to mind when the word "happy" is mentioned?

Gladly Mr. Boudreau Jr XXXXIV, if you could just kindly move the immense fat flap that is concealing your that sad excuse for a trouser andouille I will commence slurping the crawdad.  Try not to have a heart attack this time.

I will forever think of Baton Rouge as the "whirlpool of despair," no matter what this survey says.

Nabb1: I will forever think of Baton Rouge as the "whirlpool of despair," no matter what this survey says.

Yeah. I will never forget the five hour commutes back and forth to Baton Rouge post-Katrina, necessitated by the fact that my living room for several weeks was an actual, literal whirlpool of despair.

I always will have a similar feeling and always will about that place. Just driving through it makes me ill.

Dammit. Forgot to preview. Dammit

Hey, has someone pointed out yet that ignorance is bliss? Because it is. Bliss, that is. Not ignorance. Or not reading any of the first several comments in the thread before posting. Or ignorance? Wait, what am I talking about?

I was in Opelousas then Lafayette before heading back the first week in October before the power went on. Acadiana is a lovely place. Good folks up that way. I HATE Baton Rouge. The fact that when you drive over the river, the sprawling oil refinery seems to overwhelm the state capitol sums up just about everything you need to know about what goes on in that building.

Cities are typically liberal.

Why would we "suck it"?

You've obviously never been to Shreveport. Half of Shreveport wishes it was Texas.

Yeah...That struck me as odd.

As did this thought. Strike me that is.

And I think I might have muttered something under my breath about bliss. Or I burped.

I think Subs was implying that there are no residents of Lousiana that are not white-trash, red-neck, "god-fearing", republicans. You know morons; fat, drunken, retards. And as such there are no liberals in La. Since they tell us they have six of the happiest cities, and since there are no liberals in those cities, that liberals must be jealous of not living in the hot, humid, out-house garden of oblivious retards that is the great state of Louisiana. At least that what I assume Subby was saying. And boy does it depress me that my neighbors are youngish engineers and not slovenly, filthy, idiots. Where did I go wrong?

You're lucky. The family relocated to a friend's place in Zachary before getting an apartment in Central just outside BR, so I was commuting back and forth there for... some period of time that is a complete blur because I have thoroughly blocked it out. At least through Christmas. I think. Yeah, I have definitive recollections of spending Christmas 2005 in that shiathole apartment not killing myself because it was easier to drink myself into a coma.

Acadiana is terrific. I'll do the occasional Fat Tuesday in Eunice for a change of pace. Great people, great music, totally different vibe. If only they would learn there are varieties of beer that are not Budweiser in those annoying little 8 oz cans, I would go all the time.

Sure, if a dreadful economy, woeful standards of education, and general public health that would make most third world countries blush = "happy"

Okay, Shreveport's at #3. I think I know the most common factor.

Low income inequality. Shreveport rich is $100k a year.

Louisiana nets 6 out of 10 cities in America most deep in denial.  Suck it, reality

I just willingly clicked through a 22-page slideshow of stock photos, with absolutely no information content except for a comically short one-paragraph description below the first slide.

The internet is stupid.

Hey, I live in the sixth happiest city in America! I highly doubt that list. Anybody who has lived through a Rochester winter hates themselves for not getting the fark out immediately.

Just recently read Masters of Doom. Shreveport a frequently described as a run down shiathole of a city. It either got much better since the 90's or there is some deep denial going on.

Deep, deep denial.

I guess being ranked 4th in the country for taking more from the Feds than you give makes you pretty happy. Red State Socialism FTW.

2014-07-24 08:16:58 PM
Yeah, small towns and minor city-lettes are happy because they have plenty of meth to keep them happy.

You know who live in cities? Liberals.

Well, you clicked, that's all that matters.  I'll have you know that two 8th graders compiled made up this "survey."

indylaw: You know who live in cities? Liberals.

The only liberal city in Louisiana is New Orleans.

2014-07-24 08:30:10 PM
I can definitely see Lafayette on this list, it's actually a great little town.  Baton Rouge?  Shreveport?  Lake Charles?  I'd rather eat a bowl of warm shiat.

2014-07-24 08:30:11 PM
Weird. Every Louisianan I've met in the last 10 years is selling crystal meth in Arizona. I guess it's good for the economy, though.

2014-07-24 08:54:22 PM
Benightedness is nirvana.

2014-07-24 09:08:43 PM
Does Louisiana still have those drive-thru daiquiri bars? Explains the happiness, since I presume the drunk drivers in Louisiana outnumber those they kill. I have relatives in Louisiana (my dad was from there) and I'm appalled at how drunk driving seems to be that state's favorite past-time.

"Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to seek knowledge" - Francis Bacon

So he wasn't saying "ignorance is always bliss and it's better to be a constant farking idiot because that will make you happy"

Sorry Louisiana.  But thank God for Mississippi, right?

I'm  from Eunice, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies...

But really, Eunice Mardi Gras is a great experience. I've never even made one in New Orleans because it's so hard to pass up the one in my crappy little hometown. And yes, I realize I could make some parades on Saturday and Sunday in NO and then get back for Tuesday, but I'm usually faaaar too drunk to pull that off.

2014-07-24 09:23:12 PM
I had no idea that, in the US, you could pool together 4000 people and call it a "city."  That's crazy!  The Park La Brea apartments in Los Angeles has more apartments than that!
