Rough Buff -2 to the Football Giants?  and the o/u is 32?  Take the Bills, all day urrday!  They usually start the season strong and then fade.  I see the Bills giving E.J. extended reps with the first unit but conversely, I think Eli only gets a series or two before he gets yanked.

Gang, this has 22-13 Bills win written *all* over it.  If you don't bet this game, you hate free money.and definitely play the under on this one.  the HOF game is always a low scoring event.

People bet on preseason? Isn't that like betting on Little League?

2014-07-24 06:48:58 PM
I actually enjoy preseason in a roundabout way. I like seeing who wants to make the team and who doesn't. I enjoy getting an early read on the backup players since some of them will inevitably be needed. And besides, after months of no football, it's still football of a sort, and no matter how scrubby it might be it's still better than the CFL.

somewhat amazed that the Week 1 lines are out.  I think Denver is getting 7 at home versus, shiat, the Ravens?  seemed like a good cover already.  7?  in week one?  way too much.

Was that before or after Rice got suspended? Denver should win that by 20+. Assuming Denver is more or less the same team as last year.

There's been football going on this whole time. AFL season is March-August; CFL started more than a month ago...hell, there are other pro leagues that play too. Just because it's not on a 100-yard field doesn't make it not football.

/but yes, preseason is fun because that's when you realize how deep your team is going to be and how screwed you are in the event of an injury
//also, you realize which guys you're going to have to cut that are going to end up starting for other teams

It's tough for those of us who have to sell these other leagues to fans with the NFL's marketing consistently reinforcing the belief that there is no other football.

The other leagues should sell themselves if they put out a superior product. The CFL is not, and the AFL is a different enough game that it doesn't trip the football switch for me. The NFL hasn't had to make a case for itself since 1966, their last real challenge, and with the AFL and CFL they still don't.

fark that noise. I live in Green Bay. There's no such thing as "months of no football." What there is is "football season," which runs through the Super Bowl. There's "fark basketball season, let's talk about what the Packers did right/wrong this past season," which runs from February through April. Then you get "fark baseball season, let's talk about the Packers and the NFL draft/draft aftermath," which starts in April and runs through July. Then, about this time of year, it becomes "PACKERS PACKERS PACKERS PACKERS PACKERS" until the regular season starts.

I don't know what it's like in other NFL cities, but in Green Bay, you've got the Brewers off to basically the best start they've ever had, and they'll get 5 minutes of coverage in a given hour, while the Packers - during the alleged "offseason" - get the rest.

"months of no football?" the "where's my foooooootbaaaaaaall" whine starts 5 minutes after the Lombardi Trophy gets awarded.

I watched a bit of training camp coverage on NFL Network. Rich Eisen asked Peyton Manning how "Omaha" came about, and Peyton explained that any trisyllabic word could be used to replace it this season.

I'm ashamed that I now have that piece of relatively useless information.

There was a guy from Wisconsin in my favorite bar recently.  We asked him, "Do you guys care about the Brewers?"  "Nah, not really.  Especially not after Braun got busted."  "The Bucks?"  "Hahaha, nope."

Wadded Beef: This. I also like the last preseason game. Most roll their eyes at it but we're watching scrubs playing for their careers.

Still bitter my dude from EWU (Brandon Kaufman) got released after being the Bills' best non-starting WR on the field for the first two preseason games, only to have EJ Manuel go down and then have nothing but guys who had no chance of even making the Bills roster throwing for the rest of the preseason, so he never saw another pass.

That's one of the things that you'll realize about quite a few players. Yeah, you've got your guys at the top that are going to be successful no matter where they go, but there's a good 10-20% of the league that it's up to something like "does someone stay healthy at a different position?"

Herman Borrach: I'd watch more CFL if there were more of it on television in the US. We only get a handful of games without making much of an effort, which is how I like my sports.

There was one tonight on ESPN2...which is why I couldn't watch it (I only get ESPN3). My other dude from EWU is Calgary's QB - he's only gone 6-0 to start his career. Possibly could've been an NFL backup but :/ @ under 6'0" from a FCS school. If he'd been tall like Joe Flacco...

Even when the Brewers do well, they get ignored because PACKERS PACKERS PACKERS PACKERS PACKERS.

The Bucks, though, yeah. Nobody gives a shiat about them. Badger football is about the only thing that competes with Packer football for media play out here.
