The way work has been going for the last few months, I'm going to need this. Looks like I'm cracking the Petron when I get home.

National Tequila Day 2013? That's today.

This is one hell of a hangover then.

7 Leguas Reposado is a good tequila that you can typically find for under fifty bucks (I have bought it on sale for $40 more than once). It's the company that originally distilled Patrón up until 2002 when they couldn't keep up with production. They still grind the agave with a mule-driven stone wheel.

Here's something I've never admitted to anyone in real life: I don't really care for tequila. Maybe I've never had the good stuff? I usually like sour, but someone tequila always tastes too sour, or too sweet-sour, for me.

Fark Offten: Sauza Hornitos is a good and affordable tequila. Some people like it so much they drink it everyday.

Yup.  Hornitos Reposado is my every day drink.  Two shots over ice with lime and water in a big tall glass - keeps me hydrated while I'm drinking, gives me a nice cool buzz, and is way less filling than beer.  Patron is for suckers.  If you want a good tequila for less money, get Cabo Wabo.  George Clooney's Casamigos is pretty good as well.  My favorite tequila, especially when I want to have three shots and be out like a light, is Kah Reposado.  55%, smooth as hell, but deadly if you don't watch it.

Oh - and for you Scotch snobs:  I used to be one of you, then I learned better.

I'm not usually fond of tequila. Though I do recall being at one of my cousins parties and a rep was handing out samples of this stuff:

The other thing you can do for a good tequila without it costing you a ton of money is age your own.  Get a barrel from here, and throw some Kirkland silver in it.  Kirkland is 100% blue agave tequila and it ages really nice at home.

Well, pickle juice tastes pretty good. It's basically salt and vinegar flavored water. The vinegar gets rid of the burn and aftertaste of tequila instantly and the salt goes well with the tequila. If you haven't tried it, try it.

still don't get it, why not just drink tequila with a nice aftertaste and not allot of burn? Is this a regional thing? I'll try it, I have a big jar of pickled peppers in the fridge

I hate you all. Love tequila, moderate drinker, but I can't have it anymore because of elevated liver enzymes. Probably isn't from a drink e dry now and then, but the doctors told me to.lay off, just in case. Sad.

just been tempting the tequila waters lately

i have it over a lot of ice, salt & lime  (like a margarita, just less of the unimportant stuff)

started with El Jimador Reposado which was good - then tried the Anejo, which is really good

now have a bottle of Sauza Hornitos Anejo - bit more flavor i think than the El Jimador

looking forward to trying some of the other gems mentioned here

Makes Mrs. Buck do the same. Well, not necessarily stupid, but naked things. I don't discourage her when she wants a shot or a margarita.

Anyone know of or remember a brand called '3 Monks'? Or maybe it was '5 Monks'. Great stuff. Havn't had it for 20+ years.

Ooh, Espolone(sp?), and Suerte are two great tequilas. Moderately priced and both very, very tasty. I like my tequila a little smokey and woody.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but don't most moderate drinkers shun the salt and lime with tequila as 'training wheels'? Not the biggest fan of tequila, but I'll man up and take it down straight when it presents itself, is that not how it should be? And what of its little wormy friend mezcal? I am enjoying the info in this thread as I am unfamiliar with most brands, maybe I can find one I like...

Salt and lime are used to mask the taste of bad tequila.

Get a good one and you won't need them. Also, you don't pound a good tequila - a good one (that Casa Nobles anejo I mentioned is my favorite - but Don Julio, Herradura are also good) tastes really good and is a sipping liquor
