It amazes me how much protection those helmets offer.
Looked like he was alright.
Scary though.

Unfortunately for Mets fans, Tejada also does that when he's fielding routine grounders.

If you look closely, you can see there was a second pitcher.

Bet he didn't see that coming.

I don't get the headline...

The reaction of the catcher is telling. He cringes before it even hits him.

That's one magic loogie.

The announcer says it hit him flush but actually it looks like alot of energy went into spinning that helmet off his head, so a bit of a lucky angle there.

He's flopping.

yep, just the little bit that he was able to start to back away was enough to cause a slight glance

Nah. He was in Atlanta. There's video evidence.

Hopefully he doesn't get asked to help the guy move, too.

Not as bad as the shot that fellow Met David Wright took a few years ago. He's never really been the same since then.

Yeah. Kirby Puckett basically had his career end ( and possibly his life too) when he took that ball to the head.

Except for 2012 and 2013, I guess, which were two of his four great seasons.  Otherwise never the same.

Could the Mariners be any more obvious about shopping their pitchers at trade time?

Who does that guy think he is?!?

The bigger they come, Tejada they fall.

Hey, the Mariners had to do something to try to break up the perfecto that Colon was working on at the time. Like forcing the Mets to put Eric Campbell at shortstop.

/get a bat already, assholes

Also, can we fire Chris Young (out of a cannon into the sun or something) and get an actual backup shortstop?  Though Campbell looks better than I'd expect there.

The problem is that, as the NFL is learning, those helmets don't provide as much protection as we think. Sure, they prevent broken bones and cuts and the like, but there's still a significant amount of energy being transferred into the head, and subsequently the brain. That said, these shots are really rare in baseball whereas they're a normal occurrence in football, hence why we don't hear about the MLB concussion crisis.
