Sure, he's less expensive. How much do you want to lose on your inevitable flop?

2014-07-23 01:16:23 PM
It's not like this isn't a multibillion dollar franchise.  Sure cut that corner.

That would be catastrophically stupid of Hollywood... I can't wait.

he's an addict so he fits that part of the casting

Makh: It's not like this isn't a multibillion dollar franchise.  Sure cut that corner.

They just watched Spiderman go from not-so-well received 3rd movie to Amazing Spiderman making 3 times it's cost and AS2 doing more then that.

Is it the same? No, it's not so easy to reboot something that ties into your main franchise. I am simply saying I can see where they think they could get away with it.

Oh no! Without Michael Keaton, the Batman franchise will be ruined for certain!

2014-07-23 01:27:01 PM
Did the author just pull that name out of his butt or is that like an actual option Marvel has on the table?

2014-07-23 01:27:02 PM
Didn't Marvel already give RDJ a dump truck full of money?

I can never unsee beatlejuice when I see Michael Keaton.

no, the author hit a bullseye to get that name

Okay, let's play Jenga with a multibillion dollar pile of movie franchises that were kicked off and anchored by this one dude and his personality. I'm sure Disney and Marvel are both willing to do that.

Well sadly, they probably are. And their accountants definitely are.

I wish I could see what you did there.

he did so well in Total Recall

You paint a rosier picture of the Amazing Spider-Man reboot that I recall reading.  Sony seems to share some of the gloom with talk of the Sinister Six movie possibly shelved.

It wouldnt be as different as recasting Fury.  Yes we all love Hasselhoff but when he became too expensive they did a fairish replacement with Sam Jackson.

If I grew up on a farm and was retarded, Colin Ferrell might impress me but I didn't, so he doesn't.

I'm not necessarily of the mind the Farrell is a bad actor but I don't think he can play this role convincingly.

2014-07-23 01:38:06 PM
It was my impression that Iron Man was the role that made RDj a serious personage again rather than a wash-up.

To be fair, he's really good at it.

I guess what I'm saying is that he should still be IM.

I heard they don't even want RDJ for Iron Man 4, but they're talking to him to get Farrell to come down on his price.

When Downey's done find a young, fit relative unknown who can play older. Downey was perfect because he brought a clear characterization of Stark before they even started filming. Now that everyone knows Stark, that's no longer needed.

I really hope DC doesn't blow a similar opportunity with The Rock as Captain Marvel.

"I believe there will be a fourth Iron Man film and a fifth and a sixth and a 10th and a 20th," Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege said last year

Personally, I don't care, but that sounds like a really, really bad idea.

I remember reading that he re-upped for Avengers 2 and 3, but that was it. No more solo movies (as it stands now).

Robert Downey Jr's confidence, arrogance and ease has only ever been matched by Val Kilmer in his youth.
Colin Farrell is more of a "do what I want don't give a fark what you think" actor. Not the right fit.

EyeballKid: Oh no! Without Michael Keaton, the Batman franchise will be ruined for certain!

... Not saying it was Val Kilmer who did that particular franchise in for a few years (Clooney should get more credit for that) but don't forget they had to stop making Batman movies for a while and Batman Begins was something of a gamble for WB after the last series of Batman movies went off the rails so terribly.

2014-07-23 01:55:27 PM
Won't the next Iron Man get to have more fun with the role, as the director is likely to finally portray Tony Stark as the drunk who's just barely keeping it together as a superhero? And, how would Robert Downey Jr know what that is like?

2014-07-23 01:55:34 PM
Colin Farrel?  Phhhhhhhhftb.   Ryan Reynolds was born for that role!

I thought they had him locked in through Avengers 3 but there are no more Iron Man movies in his contract.

But, I'd argue that's more Joel Schulmacher's doing than that of whoever wore the cowl.

It wasn't the actor who nearly killed the franchise, it was the director.

Also, they managed to recast Jay Underwood as Johnny Storm with the guy that kinda looks like Captain America.  (Both roles also to soon be filled by a black guy.)

I think they maybe considering replacing him not because of his salary but because of how he is a ringleader for the other actors. This is article from last year explains how tight-fisted Marvel is and how the actors are fighting back.

http://www.deadline.com/2013/05/robert-downey-jr-avengers-marvel-neg ot iations-fight/

A key point from the article:

I've learned the Avengers cast are becoming united behind Robert Downey Jr who is seen as the "leader" - like "a big brother" in the words of one rep - for all the younger actors in the ensemble. "He's the only guy with real power in this situation. and balls of steel, too. He's already sent a message that he's not going to work for a place where they treat his colleagues like shiat," one source explains

Oh yeah...I hope they cast him as Black Adam because no, he is NOT Captain Marvel.

Besides, heel Dwayne Johnson is BEST Dwyane Johnson.

Colin Firth would be a good choice.

Just spitballin' here, but if they killed Tony and made War Machine/Iron Patriot the new "iron man" for IM4/5/6... would that be the dumbest thing they could do?

Seems like Cheadle really enjoys the franchise, and we could do far worse for leading men (like Terrence Howard).

// and when does Scary Convict from TDK/The President from 5th Element get his role as Luke Cage/Powerman?

2014-07-23 02:08:44 PM
Given how the iron man suit went from being able to withstand a tank shell and tear through the wing of a fighter jet, to now exploding and ripping to pieces like a rusty tin can at the slightest touch, they should also change the name of the movie when they reboot it.

"aluminum man"
"popsicle stick suit man"

etc etc

How many people do you think would stand in line to see the new US Agent movie?

I would watch it if it was Colin Ferguson.

Hell, I would see a movie about Nomad.
