I seem to get a healthy share of it from Brazil these days, too.

Could you do the egg, bacon, spam, and sausage without the spam?

My spam folder is over-flowing, but virtually none of it makes it to my inbox.  It makes me wonder how spamming can still be profitable if the filters are getting 99.9999% of it.  Even bot-nets aren't free.

I ask the same thing with regard to telemarketers.

I guess it must still be a net profit for them because their operational costs are extremely low.

Cardmember Services keeps telling me "this is my second and final notice" and have been for like 7 years or so.  Once I waited to speak to someone and asked, "What makes you think that, after not falling for your scam the first 1000 times or so, today's going to be the day?"

She hung up, of course.  But I'd really like to understand the logic there.

Any how many of those malware infections are caused by other nations and which ones are they? The US has always been the target so of course they have more to deal with. But yes, we're inflicting it on others. These botnets are less about profit and more about disrupting the nation's commerce.

I bet if we shut everyone out of the net except our allies, the spam would drop considerably. It won't stop completely of course, but the real big dick offers will start getting through instead of the fake crap intending to infect your system and sell you a placebo.

I have entire IP ranges for Russia and China firewalled and the amount of crap like port scanning etc. that I've had to deal with went down tremendously.

I've received maybe 10 unsolicited emails in my inbox in the last year.

Same thought here. Especially when the odds of someone opening it even if they see it are what? Something like .5%?

You know, I adore Monty Python, and probably know that sketch by heart, but it has one major flaw: the premise of the sketch is that everything comes with spam, and you'll get all kinds of flak for substituting or not eating it, but the first two items on the menu are "egg and bacon" and "egg, sausage and bacon". It makes no sense that the woman can't get what she wants.

/yes, I do have a license, with the world "killjoy" written in crayon
