I've never heard of the guy, but it seems like everyone's sad about losing a good, smart, capable owner who stays out of the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Cowboys fans are like, "That's a thing that can happen? Sounds amazing."

It's like I'm laughing, but I'm totally grossed out and I don't know how to deal. Sicko.

Meh....I haven't used that team name for a while.

Well, that explains the McDaniels hire. Kidding aside, he's been a great owner for the Broncos.

2014-07-23 01:04:28 PM
Considering I've never heard of him before and they've won two Superb Owls in my living memory, he was probably a good owner.

Yeah, that was farked up when I first heard about that.  He has an uphill battle on his hands, best of luck to him.

Gotta admit though, it's an impressive feat. You don't register shock and awe very often, even on that level.

It's as though the whole Super Bowl loss just flew past the owner's right ear in a snap. Way to put things behind you.

2014-07-23 01:15:25 PM

Ow! That was my feelings!: Well, that explains the McDaniels hire. Kidding aside, he's been a great owner for the Broncos.

Yep. Very sad to hear about his condition. Here's to hoping Elway is holding the Lombardi trophy in February and says "this one's for Pat."

I have personally met Pat Bowlen, he used to own a restaurant where a good friend of mine worked and Mr. Bolwen would throw a pro-bowl party every year, . Really nice guy treated everyone around him with respect, sad to hear about his issues .

Best to him and his family & friends.

In all fairness, I promise to only rip on Jerry Jones in this thread, and nobody else from the Cowboys organization....not even the mascot.

Cowboys have a mascot? What is it, a dead eagle?

Sucks to hear. Bowlen seemed like a pretty good dude from everything I've ever heard about him. Even had the good sense to say "bye" to crybaby Jay Cutler and save his team from underachievement every single year for the next decade.

Mercutio879: That's sad. Hope his replacement learns from him.

Mr Bowlen put the team in a trust so that one of his children will hopefully run it one day. And if his children are anything like their father the Broncos will be in great hands.

Alzheimer's sucks. God damn, it sucks.

As a person dealing with the day in and day out of Alzheimer's, I feel for him and his family. Best wishes for a smooth road for them.

Wadded Beef: Yep. Very sad to hear about his condition. Here's to hoping Elway is holding the Lombardi trophy in February and says "this one's for Pat."

Don't really want anyone but the Seahawks to win, but that would be a pretty good storyline and I'd probably be okay with that result for the season.

If the Broncos win and Elway DOESN'T do that, though, then I'm going to be infinitely disgusted by the idea of being happy for the few seconds where they won and I got pumped that it was going to happen.

2014-07-23 02:22:11 PM
It should be noted..well, because I feel like noting it...that being unable to run the team effectively and being unable to lead a happy life are two very different thingss. My mother was forced into retirement by Alzheimer's, but continues to function at a relatively high level. She has to write things down and be reminded of appointments and the occasional question has to be answered more than once, but she is not the stereotype of Alzheimer's we all have in our minds. Hopefully Mr. Bowlen is in the same boat and has a few years of happiness left.

People with Alzheimers tend to lose the most recent memories first. He'll remember 1997 & 1998 a lot longer than 2013

Cutler farked himself qhen he wouldn't even answer a phone call from Mr. Bowlen. And he liked Cutler. If you can't do that for the guy who signs your paycheck, GTFO.

Now now, they gave a sh*t for a few years while in the process of getting the new stadium. Even got to the Super Bowl thanks to actually making an effort.

Yeah, it sucked... When the election came up, they happened to play the Cowboys the Sunday before(Their biggest rival). They won decisively, beat the hell out of the Cowboys in a season where they were doing well. I turned to my wife and said "Shiat, those assholes are gonna get a new stadium now.", and the vote passed with a huge margin.

TwoBeersOneCan: Considering I've never heard of him before and they've won two Superb Owls in my living memory, he was probably a good owner.

He was. I live in Donkey country and he means a lot to the Denver community....football aside. When it came time to build a new stadium in 2001 there was no controversy about it despite the fact the entire thing was paid for by tax payers. This was a statement about what the Broncos mean to the community and the trust they had in the organization, goodwill that Bowlen built up over decades.

Alzheimers is a slow, drawn out end.  Unless he has other complications there probably won't be anything 'soon' about it.

/ terrible way to go

I think Elway would HAVE to do that, wouldn't he? It would probably be a little too perfect: Music swells, Elway/Bowlen freeze-frame, screen fades-to-black then roll credits.
