...or for lying about its program's injury rate.

I find the deadspin writer annoying and think a locker stuffing is in order.

When you're confronted with a report that says, "the remaining nine subjects (16% of total recruited subjects) citing overuse or injury for failing to complete the program and finish", instead of saying, "at best the result of sloppy and scientifically unreliable work, and at worst a complete fabrication", try, "the results are consistent with drop out rates due to injury for other fitness programs" or something -- anything -- other than the tinfoil hat, "they're out to get us" line.

Yeah, that's a lot of protesting for a pretty minor, tacked-on inclusion in a report that was mostly favorable for CrossFit.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS MAN

Finish your 50 burpees right now, then I want 30 chinups and 2,000 meters on the rowing machine. And be quick about it because you still have to run 2 miles and throw 14 medicine balls through the window of City Hall. THIS IS A RACE DAMMIT MOVE MOVE MOVE. WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE CITY HALL'? YOU GONNA QUIT, YOU NANCY? LOSERS QUIT!

Well, doing any kind of exercise at high intensity is going to result in participants getting some kinds of injury at some point.    The key is to know when to back off for a bit before starting up again.   With weight lifting you are going to get really sore and probably pull something if you are just starting out.   Knowing how to manage that is key for long term success.

THIS THIS THIS.  Combining olympic power lifts and a stop watch is just dangerous.

The problem with crossfit is that there really isn't anybody to regulate the gyms popping up.  Any asshole that rents a warehouse and invests in some bumber plates thinks hes an expert, and in turn makes the people that take it serious look bad.  I personally don't get he exercise as a sport concept, but anything thats keeps you healthy is a plus.  Sure some of them get annoying, but no more than marathon runners, cyclists and the gawd damn Herbalife crowd.  fark herbalife

Don't ego lift, and slow down when your messing around with heavy ass weights, the weights keep you honest, and they will always win.

/be at the gym in 26 minutes

There's always waiting for a kid to catch a foul ball and then ripping it out of his hands while dancing around like you just sacked Tom Brady. That gets you on Sportscenter fairly reliably.

All of this.  As much as I don't have any interest in fitness competitions, the best crossfit gyms are the ones that train their members to go to competitions.  They care about form (they don't want to get no-rep'd in the competitions) so they stress scaling the workouts until they are comfortable with your form.  A good gym also tells you that your result for your workout doesn't matter one bit aside from your own pride - the coaches want you to do the exercises correctly, however you have to load the bar/use a band/slow down/etc.

It would be nice if the corporate organization regulated all gyms so that they followed that plan but apparently they would rather attack studies like this than clean up their own house.

no way dude, the Color Run rocks!  and it is more of a color walk, these days.  the last two, they've had like, 8-10K runners on a what, 5K course.  that many humans don't really fit on the course (at least in Tempe, the one I do), so unless you are in the first 5 or 6 chutes, the physics of that many humans in that little space means you can barely run.

it's a good time in any event.

I try to aim for that comfortable middle ground, where I am in shape enough to walk around the store (or run a 10k if I have to), but still drink all the beer I want to.

litespeed74: A guy at work got caught up in the hype and wanted to lose ~ 80 lbs...so basically he was huge. Despite my warnings to do crossfit he still went, got hurt twice. Basically paid out 350 dollars to get  hurt.

Yup.  That's a big mistake people make.  Don't try to go from couch potato to Olympian in 3 weeks flat.  If you weigh 350, you can just start with some walking, then move up to easy jogging and basic weights.  Combine that with a decent diet and you'll be in good enough shape to THEN start thinking about crossfit or something more intense in a few months.

mud runners are 50/50.  I enjoy them, a little bit of everything mixed all together.  The Super spartans, Tough Mudders, and Battlefrogs are actually pretty fun.  But yeah you get the assholes that are just there to put a picture on FB for their friends to like.

The color run's and random obstacle course 5ks popping up every where are kind of annoying.  I tried to doing a color run last weekend.  Worst experience i have ever had.  It's a drug free rave, with shiattier music.  I tried to run it, but kept having to dodge people stopping to take selfies in the middle of the course throwing paint powder all over the place..  Just gave up and walked the hole thing.  Went straight to my car and left
