He seems to be more enthusiastic about filing lawsuits than he ever was about managing the Clippers.

Hey, it's closer to his area of expertise.

There was an article a few days back that said if he goes through with what he wants to do, desolve the family trust to fight the sale, then the bank or whoever holds the loans that his enterprise has out are going to call his loans, and that means he will have to come up with $500 million in cash, which his enterprise doesn't have. I guess the problem was that his enterprise is in default on its loans and they were working with the bank to refinance. But the bank is refusing to refinance if their isn't a trust in place. So this crazy old kooks fight could cause his company to go tits up and destabilize the LA property market.

I actually hope he gets his day in court and the other owners dirty laundry gets aired out on the stand. Bet there is some interesting stuff there.

Is it wrong to be wishing for this too? The biggest dirtiest possible cluster fark of epic proportions possible. I can't even imagine all the shiat the old racist has on the league.

Speaks volumes about the NBA, its leadership, and its ownership caste that you immediately assume there's that much dirt out there.

Of course, I believe it too. The NBA is ridiculously toxic from top to bottom.

He doesn't give a shiat. All he wants in life is to own the Clippers. Doesn't care if they're a trainwreck of a franchise. He just wants them. To have. And he's pulling out every trick his addled racist mind can come up with in a frantic bid to stop the world for one more day from making him not own the Clippers. The day they finally get totally and completely wrenched away from him, the day he realizes that they're gone and his sole source of joy in life is gone, he's basically just going to let his body shut down and he'll likely be dead within a year and a half of some illness or other that he won't even bother fighting.

There are plenty of billionaires in the world but only a handful of spots in the NBA owners club. At 82 I doubt he gives a shiat about anything other than keeping the team. Well that and being a thorn in the side of the League. Even if they take the team from him I think he will spend the rest of his life farking with them. Obsession, bitterness and revenge can fuel a strong will to live.

Personally, I'm wondering if him croaking would speed up or slow down this whole mess...... it seems like the more he works himself into a froth over these suits, the more likely he strokes himself out of existence

From what I heard, not croaking is part of what's keeping him suing.

If he sells the team he immediately has to pay hundreds of millions in capital gains taxes on the sale price compared to the original purchase price. If he dies and the property is spread among his heirs the heirs only have to pay capital gains on the appreciation from the time they inherited the property which is going to be much less than the appreciation from the time it was purchased.

This was originally explained by sports radio guys, not a probate lawyer so it could be partly or completely misunderstood or may even be completely bogus.

Yup. He knows he's done, he's just trying to draw out the process as long as possible. He wants to cause the NBA as much pain as possible on the way out. Summer league aside, when training camps open for the new season, it would be awesome if every single player on the team refused to show up. he can own the Clipper name, but he'd be without players and without sponsors. Suddenly that $2 billion he was going to get for the name drops to under a few million in value. That's the best outcome I can think of for this.

Actually, even better than quitting would be to actually show up and play, but, just, like, lose every game 247-3.  Just purposefully turn the ball over, airball all the time, foul out every player until you get down to the worst 5 guys, just make it look awful.  Everyone else in the league will know you aren't that bad of a player or coach, they'll know what is up.

It must suck to have one foot in the grave with a shiatton of money and still be an unsatisfied bitter prick. See also the Koch Bros and Adelson.

I know, right? If he would just lose his NBA team all racial injustice would be corrected in the world.

The players just need to refuse to play to get this over with, they have the public on their side which would mean the NBA wouldn't do shiat.

Problem is, if he's declared incompetent, basically he's an old man yelling at a cloud.
