Not only are golf clubs easily passed from generation to generation, no one can afford that sh*t anymore.

This is what happens. This is what happens when you f*ck the middle class in the ass.

Subby, if you ever submit a headline again that has "slice" and "dick" in it, I'm personally going to find you, tie you to a tree and pelt you with green jello and Rice Krispy cereal until you cry

The store's name is "Dick's" and you couldn't make a penis joke?

Or it could be that you can buy the same clubs cheaper at other places.

ding ding ding....I bought a complete set of Titleist irons, PW- 3 iron, with a bag, at a swap meet for 10 bucks.  As near as I can tell, they are about 4-5 years old and retailed for about $300-$400 when new.  My son isn't likely to be on the tour any time in his lifetime, so I think it was kind of a good deal since they are for him.  People that are buying the latest flavor of the month usually haven't figured out how to play with ANYTHING, so they figure they will become a scratch golfer if they just keep buying the latest and greatest. Which is stupid.

Lesbians already bought their golf supplies elsewhere because they don't like Dick's.

On the other hand, I spent $80 on a pre-owned driver from golf galaxy that, when new, sold for $400. The difference it made on my drive was immediate and noticeable. Spending money doesn't make you a good golfer, but playing with crap equipment can make the game even more frustrating than it is.

Dicks sucks disks.  It's a girlie man/soccer mom's sporting goods store.  You can't even get a fishing license at all Dickseses stores.  Some don't even carry firearms or pointy sticks.  But if you want to pay too much for 363 models of Chinese-made Nike shoes and no Made in USA New Balance shoes, it's the place to be.

Though my opinion isn't necessarily as strong as yours regarding Dicks, I can't say that I disagree with you much.  Place seems like a cheap imitation of a Sports Authority or Sport Chalet (at least regarding the stores I've been in).

This right here.  It should be called "Dick's Over-Priced Under Armour Store".  Got my teenage daughter a $100 gift certificate for Dick's and she was terribly excited...right up until she went shopping and realized she could only get ONE item with a mere Franklin.  Screw you, Dick's.  I'll go to Sierra Trading or Big 5.

There are way too many sporting goods chains, IMO....I don't know how they all can stay in business
In my area, we have Dick's, Sports Authority, Modell's, Eastern Mountain Sports on the higher end, and another local chain. Not to mention Target/Walmart/Kmart who pretty much sell the same  basic crap for less. Oh yeah, and a store called 'Golfsmith' which only sells golf stuff. I've seen maybe 5 cars in the parking lot on an average afternoon. Someone is going to fall eventually.

It's more than that: the USGA and RandA finally decided to stop running the game for the benefit of the manufacturers and put some common sense rules in place. They should havestarted years ago with the ridiculous toaster on a stick drivers, but they wouldn't.

<CSB>
Our daughter moved to CA several years ago. We went out for a visit (from NH), and were driving along the highway when we saw a Sports Chalet in a strip mall. Didn't know what it was, so her boyfriend attempted to clarify.
"Do you guys have Dick's?"
Much laughter ensued.

You're both right.

I play an old set of Mizuno MP-30s that I got second-hand for $150, they retailed for around $1500 when new.

Best clubs I could find used, the left-handed used club market isn't exactly stout. I shoot about 85-90 every time out which is decent considering I play every Sunday and never go to the range.

The best thing was when I was doing a job at this guy's house and noticed he was a lefty as well. I made a comment in passing like, "hey you are the other left-handed golfer". He comes back with a brand new Cleveland driver he hit a handful of times and just gave it to me.

Went from hitting 230 with the Ping G5 I had to over 265 with the Cleveland which was 5+ years newer.
