Manimal: the Motion Picture

Awesome!

Will Ferrell and

Oh fark.

Didn't Rob Schneider already play this concept as a comedy?

Dang.  That was, word-for-word, my chain of reactions to TFA.

... Are you a wizard?

But who will play Crane?

Why not Ferrell himself?

It's been 30 years since I saw the original broadcasts. . .did they ever show a complete transformation?  I only remember dim snatches of animals parts and human faces. . .

You're mostly right but they do show parts of the transformation.

There's a video at this site. I didn't watch it but apparently it's a very long transition to some sort of panther.

I remember in the pilot he turned into a shark and ate the bad guy at then end, then I thought ewwww, that totally negates any coolness of having that power, having to pick people out of your teeth in the morning .

How exactly does this relate to the song by the Germs?

Didn't they already make this, only instead of fighting crime, the guy changed into an animal to get laid, and the guy was a god named Zeus?

Eh, I actually thought his remake of Land of the Lost was pretty funny if you could get past the part where he was butchering a much beloved series.  If they'd made the whole thing a parody rather than a reboot, called it "The Lost Land of Lostness" or something, it might not have tanked so hard.  All that said, I giggled pretty hard at a lot of that film, but I felt bad after.

Manimal though... nobody loves Manimal because it was a well done and beloved series.  Manimal is loved because its atrociousness transcends bad and wraps all the way around to "good because it's so bad", like Plan 9 From Outer Space or Manos: the Hands of Fate. Will Ferrell can't really desecrate that series any worse than what the series did to itself.

Automan with modern CGI could be interesting. With Andy Serkis as Cursor.

Airwolf was cool, but the model helicopter kit I loved the most back in the 80s was Blue Thunder.

Airwolf

as a concept was a Blue Thunder knockoff.

Kevin Smith is sort of remaking that one, only instead of man-to-snake it's man-to-walrus. Essentially the movie-length version of seeing Adam Corolla chattering away on Mythbusters, then cutting to Jamie Hyneman while Adam is still talking. Sounds like riveting cinema, doesn't it?

I still haven't seen a Fall Guy reboot, so I hold out hope.

2014-07-23 09:20:18 AM
The only thing MANIMAL should be remembered for is the commercial NBC made trying to hype it up
the show where they showed a guy in a cowboy hat (obviously supposed to be JR from DALLAS) floating
in a pool talking about how they had Friday Night all to themselves, then a shark eats him.

But, in a world where JEM is getting a gritty reboot, why should this attrocity surprise anyone?

funny that Will F pops up this morning, as, while getting ready, i thought up a good trivia question:

what's the best/greatest thing Will F has ever done? while this sounds subjective, i argue there is but 1 answer...

i have vague memories from my childhood of 1. loving the show, and 2. his transformation into a snake to slither out of bindings that held him on a table (like a hospital bed-type of thing)

i just wiki'd
8 total episodes
he transformed "in almost every episode" into a hawk and a panther, plus he transformed into a bull, a horse, a dolphin, a bear, and a snake

1983...so i was 7...

sadly i can't watch youtube here at work

i was, as i said, 7 when the show aired, and it was AWESOME! albeit nowhere near as awesome as the incredible hulk or the dukes of hazzard

i think a will ferrell silly-comedy movie version of this show will be one of the better things he's done

i tried a year or so ago to watch "greatest american hero", which was another favorite of my childhood...oh my, what a horrible show

Trivia note: the phrase "Totally Airwolf", a term that meant the referred to item was highly enjoyable, has
the unique pop culture distinction of having become passé before it was actually ever uttered in earnest.
